On Saturday, January 14th, a bunch of friends and I will be hosting a Grateful Dead style open jam. It will take place at The Legendary Wooden Nickel, which is at 444 Lake View Ave, Highwood, Illinois 60040 (USA). It will run from 8:00 - midnight.
This will run similar to a blues jam, meaning there will be a house band and a sign-up sheet. Except instead of blues, we will focus on the songs performed by the 'Dead. The house bass rig will (probably) be a DNA 1350 head on top of a Bergantino HD212.
Come on out!

Looks like a great time! Too bad I don't know any GD tunes or I'd consider taking advantage of the long weekend and make the drive.

Cool!
If blues is more your speed and you find yourself up this way on a Thursday, there's a regular Blues Jam at the same venue. (probluesjam.org or http://www.facebook.com/ProBluesJam/)
This is the first time we've attempted something like this with GD music. Seems like there's a fair amount of interest. We hope to repeat the event if there's a good response.

Sounds like fun. Can we create a portal between Boulder and Chicago? Seems like there are enough Chicago people here!

I dunno. Might be trouble. Those things that poke up into the sky (mountains, I think you call 'em) would scare all us flat-landers.
Although the pizza in Colorado would improve...
;D

Good point on the pizza - but to be perfectly fair, Uno does have at least one Denver location.

Have you tried Abo's in Boulder? It's not bad. But I've never had anything in Chicago that I would call pizza. :-)
Seriously, though, my favorite pizza joint is also a jazz venue called Al Nono Risorto in Santa Croce, Venezia.

Haven't tried Abo's, although I will put on my to-do list the next time I'm out that way.
Yeah, I know what you mean. If you're eating it with your hands, it's not proper Chicago Pizza.
Although I do actually like all the variations - even the thin Italian style. Haven't made to to Venice yet. Rome and Berlin has some good pizza.
Well, look at that - I've hijacked my own thread.
-
Well, if you do come out this way, maybe we could organize a Rocky Mountain gathering!

Colorado has Breckenridge Bourbon.
Not sure what that has to do with anything, just got a bit of cabin fever running through my veins and feeling chatty. It truly is a darn good Bourbon.
