Not a gig as such but I'm popping to a local Bass Bash in Leicester put on by some members of the Basschat UK forum this afternoon and have decided after a lot of procrastination this morning to carry a couple of my alembics with me . This is not easy as you know i'm not in the habit of letting my basses go in the hands of anyone else so I'm pretty nervous about it. But generally I have found that site is not too complimentary overall about alembics or other high end "Coffee Table" basses so I hope once they have a chance to try one out that may enighten a few. I doubt if I will play anyone else's bass unless there is a Ritter there. No series basses that would be a step too far but I'm taking my Black Europa 5 and purple Elan 4 so that should cover a lot of bass ground.

The only way that gets better Jazzy... roll up in a Lotus Elan or Europa, with an Elan and Europa bass.  ;D

Wave at my home-folks over in Huncote.   ;)

Well..... I invited everyone to have a go but all except one guy was too scared to even touch any of my basses never mind play one of them. I would have thought more would have taken the opportunity to try out. Quite a few came to ask questions about them and were very complimentary about alembic generally and the build quality. They were a nice bunch of guys though.

Did they get to hear you play your Alembics?

Hi David, not many as I wasn't able to plug into an amp until the very end when everyone was packing up. I got to try out a Barefaced Speaker cab and a thunder funk amp.

Here are some of the tracks I played on the Dreadbeat and Jazz session with my NotStrictlyJazz quartet & Friends in March this year. Some on mobile phone and some recorded on my Can on 5D SLR so the quality varies between clips but enough to get the vibe.
This was also the first gig with me using my new redwood Alembic Series I Europa 5 bass.

I'm playing this festival with Musical Youth.
Big festival calls for one of the big guns so a great time to try out my redwood and ebony series europa. :-)
If you are local and can make it, come down and say hi.  http://www.solihullsummerfest.co.uk/line-up/saturday/ (http://www.solihullsummerfest.co.uk/line-up/saturday/)

Just got a message today, we " Musical Youth" are opening for UB40 in London at the Electric Brixton Town Hall Parade, London SW2 1RJ, England on November 8th. Nice high profile gig so that looks like a date for a series bass!!!!

Nice! I remember seeing UB40 ca. 1982, before Red Red Wine saturated everything, when they were still mostly political and very raw. One of the top 10 shows of my life. The big songs were Tyler, 1 in 10, King, ah, such a great show!

Cheers Edwin, I was always a Wailers fan and big into Bob, Peter Tosh & Bunny Wailer also Burning spear. UB40 and Musical Youth ald also Steel Pulse,(although I haven't played with them), are all from my home town and I have also toured with Pato Banton and Apache Indian over here and stateside too. So it's cool to be able to experience some aspect of their success. It would be great to open for UB40 in our home town in front of a  home crowd! That would be awesome. I better check where they are playing.

I saw BM&W in 1979. Hm, I think I mentioned that somewhere. Amazing show.

I opened for Burning Spear in San Francisco in the late 90s. My band had nothing to do with reggae, more like singer/songwriter world music, so it was an odd pairing (The Wailers closed the night).

I saw Steel Pulse many times, from about 1982 on, and got to be friends with Amlak for a bit when my band played a few festivals that they played at. A fantastic band.

And yet it still remains, I'd love to see YOU play!

Sadly the gig has had to be cancelled, the guy whom the benefit gig was in aid of has had complications with his condition overnight so a decision was made by the organisers to cancel the gig.

I'm doing a set with three different bands playing three different types of music on this gig tonight.
It's a celebration of the life of one of the guys who played with us in Musical Youth who passed away recently.
Jazz-funk set, Stevie wonder covers set and a reggae set with Musical Youth. Should give me a good chance to put my new Barefaced cab through it's paces.
