Another Series One on EBay
I just saw this and don't know if it is legit or what. Price is low at this point (under $400). Maybe someone is local to where it is & can check it out.

It has an odd serial number in the pic for a 1977, unless it is some kind of overseas export model???
-
There are a couple unusual brass inserts on the back of the body. Says they were used to hold a set list.
-
Does it look like the serial number is 77-780? The 7 in 780 looks really faint, but I think it's there.
-
It's been a couple years, but I definitely remember seeing this one for sale before. (because of those two odd brass doo-hickeys and the incorrect knobs) If I remember right, it's all legit Series I innards though, and not in too bad a shape.
Maybe it's the wood combination or a camera trick, but does anyone notice the purpleheart neck lams look a twitch thinner and the maple center the same amount thicker?
-
Oh yeah, it does look it has a '7' in the SN

A quick search brings this up:

I am pretty close to this bass, but eBay is really making it difficult to exchange information. I would like to have checked this one out.
-
It's relisted. I guess it did not meet the reserve.

My '77 Series I is 4 digits away from 780 (776), and from the pics they look very similar in construction.
From the way it sits in that case though, I wonder if this is actually 32" scale? see how close the headstock is to the divider? It's been many years since I had a case like that for mine, but I recall the headstock being much closer to the end of the case on my 34" scale.

Wow, your '77 is only 11 away from mine (765) what a small world!
