Well, 2016 is almost out the door and 2017 is just ready to be born. There's so much great music happening tonight to bring in the new year. I'm just about to enjoy Widespread Panic on SiriusXM (sign up for a free 30 day trial to listen tonight). This is night 2 with Dave Schools on his new Moontimes bass.
What are you all doing tonight? Out for live music, home on the couch tour?

Just finished New Year's Eve service at the Buddhist Church of Oakland - hoping to play my Alembic more in 2017!!!
-
Well... I came down with something yesterday and seem to have settled into good, old-fashioned sick. :P
So from my perspective, 2017 can only get better from here... guess I'll take a couple days off, stay home and play bass. :)

After playing out on too many New Year's Eve gigs over the years, we were at home, and geeeeezzzz was it strange.
I'm flipping around the tube, and my fave Turner Classic Movies is running a marathon of the 'That's Entertainment' movies, fine by me. Three clicks down, IFC was running a marathon of 'The Decline of Western Civilisation' in the I, then II, and III editions. WHAT a juxtaposition.
And then, as if things weren't strange enough . . . . . . Nashville had their own NYE celebration downtown, headlined by Keith Urban, who accompanied by his boogie-on-stage-with-Daddy wife, the lovely Nicole Kidman, who launched into a Prince medley in tribute.
Went to bed early . . . . . .

Just back from a New Years gathering at a friend's house down in the redwoods near Santa Cruz. Nice and safe way to ring in the New Year. Wishing much health, happiness and continued musical adventures to everyone in the club!

I miss Sanders Theatre! So many great times there, from Oregon in 1982 and 84 to Christmas Revels in the early 70s to John Harbison modern music to the Neville Brothers (in the room on the other side from the theatre) the time I went by there with some friends who had just moved to Boston when we all started out at Berklee. I wanted to show them around the cool parts of Harvard Square and we walked in to find a rehearsal in progress with the Harvard Chamber Orchestra and a phenomenal young cellist playing Bach transcendentally. We watched and listened as they played and discuss parts for about 40 minutes before we got kicked out. I found out his name was Yo-yo Ma when the review of the concert the next night came out.

A fun night at The Mishawaka up the Poudre Canyon outside Fort Collins. We played an hour past curfew. Got home around 4:30AM.

Happy New Year !
I will start new project duo with Clarinet this year.
Now I am thinking to play with my main Hi-C 5 st. for pops or (electric) uplight bass for jazz.
I'm very excited about it and I believe this year will be happy!
I wish be happy for everyone and all of the world.

Edwin,
Sounds like you had some good moments at Sanders. It's a great theater that supports a variety of talented performers, both local and national. I've seen some great shows there just this past year. Below is a photo of this year's Revels, a fun production for sure. I love the part when everyone jumps up and runs to the lobby to sing at intermission.
I used to go up to Mishawaka's in the summertime to hear bands in the hatch shell out back and watch rafters float down the Poudre River. I used to see The Subdudes there when they were living in Fort Collins for a while. Great place!
