Title: Using as Series bass with a Phil Jones Bass M300 head
Post by: jazzyvee on November 05, 2016, 11:56:16 AM

Anyone used a Phil Jones M300 with a series bass?

I've seen one on line and it has two independent channels and looks like it combines the two input signals into a mono out to the speakers.
It seems a good idea but I wonder if there is any sonic benefit to taking individual outs from my DS-5 into that two channel head head and sorting out the tone vs taking a mono out from in my DS-5 and feeding that signal to a regular mono bass head.

I guess it's a similar question in regards to whether its best to mix the bass to mono in the DS-5 and go into an F1-x or feeding both bass outputs from the DS-5 to an F2-b and in both cases taking the mono out to the power amp.
At the moment I'm not thinking of a bi-amped rig but when I've tried my bass into two F1-x's the bass output seems more powerful maybe it's just louder. :-) Any thoughts?

Hi Jazzyvee, from a fellow UK Alembicist.  I have purchased a smaller Phil Jones Suitcase combo plus the extension cab recently. I only play mono Alembics (Mark King and Epic Leftys).  I bought the twin channel so I could have set up fretless and fretted settings dialed in for quick changes at gigs.  The amp took a little getting used to, but I now really love its 'hifi' characteristics.  Because its quite small I do tend to run it through the band PA as well to cope with our guitarist.

Piers, you kept my spark going, and i've done more reading up and I think the sound quality is going to be much higher than my current spare head which is a Peavey Tour 450, so I'm selling that one and buying the PJB. At the price I'm getting it for it's still gonna be a good head even if i use only one channel.
