Just got this lovely bass. Wow mint condition and plays beautifully.
Can someone help with the electronics...the "outside one is the filter....the other two i thought maybe was volume and pan ?
thanks
-
Also, this was sold to me as a Spoiler. This a Persuader correct? Is there much of a difference as far as what they are worth on the used market. This is mint condition....are they about the same as a Spoiler?
-
You have a gift Craig... you've now owned more Alembics than I have seen in real life. ;D
I *think* it should be Volume/Volume/Filter, but it could have a Pan. Interesting to see a Persuader with AXY's, not common but there are some. That one is going to be very late in '89. Mine is late-August, at #5559.
Congratulations & Compliments! (again)
I'm sure Mica will set it straight, but as I understand it, Persuader is a variation on the Spoiler, they share a body shape but have different electronics. Persuaders usually have either a P/J, or J/J, sometimes other combinations of pickup configurations.
Here's the links to their respective info pages:

Again, nice find. ;)

'Tis a Persuader. If you can post a picture of what is in the electronics cavity we can confirm if it has the original 2 volume setup or if it has been modified with a volume/pan.
The main difference is that the Spoiler has 2 preamps, one for each pickup. You can change to a volume/pan (or just replace the pan if you already have one), and get the preamps that way. The Spoiler also has a 2-position Q switch.
From what I've seen, they track about the same price-wise used, but I just an going on what I see here on the club. I'm not an expert in used values.

Thank you Mica and Gregory. Well I have owned quite a few Alembics...I really dig this one. Its definitely V/V Filter...but I will post a pic in a few to clarify.
So it is possible to change to a volume/pan and get two preamps that way? I will post a pic in a few.

2 volumes in there.

2 volumes in there.
Thank you for the clarification Mica. Would it be possible to a preamp for each pickup with the current setup the Persuader has? What would be the procedure and how complicated is it? A top notch tech/luthier be able to handle it or to the mothership ?
-
You would have to get the preamp and a new one-volume harness. Most can do this themselves on the kitchen table if you can play with Legos. It's really easy, just unplug and plug, and use the 1/2" nut driver for mounting. But you can hire it done if you are not into DIY.
To order the preamp, go to the Alembic Store (http://alembic.stores.yahoo.net/panpreamp.html) and choose the option with the original jack, there's not a lot of extra room in there!

Thank you kindly Mica....
Just to be clear:
I would get the PJ activator with the orignal jack?
-
Yes. The marketing is directed at PJ pickups, but it will work for ANY Activator pickups. The main advantage is you can adjust the height of the pickups and not worry about the impact on the volume, since you'll have a gain control to change that to suit your needs.

Love the bass and its a keeper. I will do the upgrade when I have the funds. Please provide whatever serial number history you can find on the bass Mica.
Thank you!!!!
