Post by: susan on September 23, 2016, 04:02:59 PM
Hi Everyone,

We received a heads up link to a Press Release from Sophia Clarke regarding the opening of the exhibit at The Smithsonian's New National Museum Of African American History And Culture. It opens tomorrow.

Stanley is giving a free bass workshop as part of the opening festivities.

If any of you are in the area, be sure to go by and check it out.

Thank you Susan.  His inclusion in the new Smithsonian's opening is a wonderful recognition of his contributions to music, and more broadly to our culture.  And that the museum will be featuring one of his Alembics makes it that much more special.

I am in the area but, unfortunately, can't make it to this. I'm sure it will be awesome!

Any of you have periscope on you phones?  If you don't....get it now.  Mica's husband Bill has been watching George Clinton walking around the new  museum...it's VERY cool.

The New York Times ran an excellent piece about the museum a couple of weeks ago with lots of great pictures. Looks awesome. My wife teaches U.S. History and will be taking her students there  next spring on what will be her 11th chaperoning trip to D.C..

I guess for a museum it would have to be the real thing so a series bass would be appropriate. Maybe the Smithsonian are ordering one like Stanley's and he is loaning them one of his till that one arrives. I'm speculating but no doubt the plot will thicken and reveal all.

Looks like he donated a SC Signature Standard bass. Collection can be viewed online at the museum's website.

Wasn't "the Brown Bass" stolen?
Was it ever recovered?

No, the Brown Bass is in Victor Wooten's hands now.

How long has Victor had it? I'm seeing him next month, would be nice if he played it!

He's had it for quite a while, I don't recall the exact year, but it may be a decade or more by now! I'm not aware of him ever performing with the Brown Bass.

Thanks, Mica.

Well, I think it's about time he played it live!
