This one looks like a small standard body, but with Epic/Orion/Excel electronics maybe? Not sure... they are arranged in an odd asymmetrical pattern. Hard to guess what they are without a look inside. Cool zebrawood top and matched headstock.

I sent the seller a request for better information on the controls. Will update...

It looks like it started off as a small body Essence then someone changed the electronics to V/P/B/T after the fact.

Might be a medium scale, with the bridge and tailpiece moved back as far as possible. Small crown peghead too.

After two tries, the seller still says the controls are: Volume, Pan, and Tone. The seller is not the original owner, and apparently doesn't know the difference. I would guess Keith is right and it was an Essence in a custom body shape, retro-fit with Epic/Orion/Excel type circuitry sometime. It's a cool bass... at the right price, I'd have to make a project out of it. (like I ain't got enough projects going...) ;)

Back in the first decade of this millennium there were a number of small body, short scale Essence basses showing up in the various places you find these on the Internet. As I recall most were flamed maple and while this one is nicer with the zebra wood I thought it might be from that period.
