Originally built in 1980 as a S1 with graphite inlaid neck. Sent to Alembic in 2011 and worked on for four years, as can be seen in this thread.

It is in my words, perfect in every way - But of course. It is in Mica's words, perfect and a work of love. All materials used and craftsmanship are of the highest quality in this bass. I seen plainer and more fancy, but never better. I'm selling this bass because it can no longer be appropriately appreciated by me in my current state of health. I can barely play my little short scale basses. Worse, with AS I cannot even look at it much, unless I am standing right over it. It saddens me greatly to let it go, but it is just wasted badly on me.
Body is Macassar ebony lams over a Circassian walnut core.
Neck is flamed maple-ebony-maple-purple heart-maple-ebony-maple-purple heart-ebony-flamed maple. Even the purple heart is nicely flamed. It is an asymmetrical neck, like a pre-Gibson Tobias, in fact made right off the dimension of Steve Wood's old Tobias I have. Alembic had the bass sent in by Steve to copy it exactly from the 12th fret on. The fundamentals on this bass are incredible, and even the harmonics are great.
Custom tail piece.
Curved rail bridge with extra beefy height adjust bolts for a more solid sustain and feel.
No battery compartment, for more sustain and more ebony left in the string path. Screw your bass tech!
Rack mount power supply or blue box, buyer's choice.
Brand new 20 ft. Alembic five-pin cable - not an eBay made one.
Recessed Dunlop strap buttons.
Violet LEDs and red at 12th and 24th positions.
Abalone inlays with two added stars at the 24th position.
Fairy and Man-In-The-Moon inlay in first fret position.
Inlaid bronze logo with MOP and abalone inlays.
Bookmatched Macassar ebony front and back of headstock, not just in the front.
Knobs are custom made ebony and 24K gold square wire made by David King in Oregon - Tiny works of art themselves. They are exact replicas of Alembic hat knobs and chicken head switch knobs. Perfect!
Pickups are old ALEMBIC embossed style.
All gold hardware.
Hipshot Ultra Lite machines.
Adjustable nut has custom two holding screws and two height screws (No holding screw under the D string).
Omega cut body, tailpiece, and headstock.
Headstock beveled on both sides.
New Jan-al top-of-the-line flight case with wheels.
I will be taking pictures of it and posting in this thread. E-mail me in seriously interested.

Would love to see some more pics, the bass seems wonderful. Whats the scale length?
- Tom
-
This would be such a great bass for me! Too bad I'm poor_edwin.
-
Questions on length and price: It's an LSB = 34" And price will be $10,000 - Which is cheap for what it is, especially since it is virtually a brand new bass. Immaculate. By the time I got it, I could no longer play it for more than five minutes, and that hurt. I cannot reach the 1st fret. I'll try and get pix taken and up today. I am in no rush to get rid of this bass.
-
Just had a look at the pictures and that bass is incredible!! Sorry you have to sell that bass Nigel.
-
Sorry to hear about your situation Thomas... it's really an incredible instrument... must be tough to let it go. :(
-
Thomas; I normally wouldn't want to hijack someone's "for sale" thread, but I just wanted to say that I am saddened to hear that your health issues are preventing you from enjoying this beautiful instrument, and that I wish for you all the best. You are in my thoughts, and heart, this evening.
-
Tom:
Please forgive another brief thread hijack... bu I'm so sorry to hear about your latest challenge. Love and healing prayers your way, brother...
-
What a beautifull bass. Good luck with the sale.

I took 20 or more pictures, but the vast majority really suck. I need to rethink how I use this new camera. 20 megapixel, so shots are more than 4K screen resolution. It is angling the shot that is the problem. The bass just acts like a mirror, so you know it is a bass, but has stucco textures, clouds, blue sky - everything except the nice wood and its coloring I want to present. A couple of the rear head shots came out almost decent - could be a lot better. What is the maximum size you can post here, now? I'm sure I cannot post 4MB files here.
-
It talking to the originator of a thread considered hijacking it now? I don't care. There are all kinds of shames in life, but finding a new owner of this bass won't be one of em. Both of us are just plodding down the paths we need to go. Easy! Hmmm, I just picked up almost 600 more posts than I had. Changing the board must have combined my old accounts. It does not 'feel' like home anymore, but I guess it works a lot better. OK.
-
The new picture size limit is 500MB per picture, ten pictures per post are allowed.
If you can find something dark to put behind you to minimize the reflections, that might help.
-
I'll post some pictures later this afternoon. I've got visitors here until about 4ish.
-
Here's a few shots...
-
Thanks for the info. I'll try some test ones.
-
Wow, neat-o! I'll take some better pictures. I really like how it shows them small until you click on them. Sorry if they are too large for some monitors. Good for checking basses for flaws. Zero flaws on this bass. Just dust and reflections.
-
Back of headstock.
-
Good Lord that Bass is Geourgous!
Peace,
Pete

You took a very nice bass and made it incredible. Hats off to you for wanting to see it played. I don't know whether I'd be able to "set it free" if I had waited the length of time you did to get it back and then get it back again in its transformed condition. Absolutely gorgeous. Someone with more cash on hand than me, Buy this bass!
-
Back of the headstock is a good one for showing where the gloss finish ends and the satin finish begins on the back of the neck. The maple in the neck and headstock are very flamed, and not showing up because of poor camera angle and lighting. It is very hard to properly shoot flamed and quilted maple. Sooner or later I will get lucky. There is a lot to say about this bass, but I am not good at doing that much these days. No biggie. Hipshots are 20 to 1 ratio, and large barrel, so nicer on the strings - less breaks. Kris at Alembic really did a fantastic job on this bass. The craftsmanship is the best I have seen.
I cannot figure out how to get rid of the double picture below. So I will leave it to a moderator. Sorry . . .
-
Front of headstock - Good picture of the logo. Cloud really looks like a storm cloud. Kris took a very nice bass and made it what it is today. His work is just impeccable, to say the least. I am waiting for a day that is not too hot to take the bass outside. This sale will be very slow, and that is fine with me. I'll have more time with the bass.
-
While waiting for proper weather for outside pictures, I should mention that I have no problem shipping world-wide and have done it before. VAT - Gift - I do not care. I bought my first SII on der payment plan - Deposit, and the payment every pay schedule. Worked out freat and I sold the same SII that way to a real nice guy. So I am not against that. It is not frustrating for me keeping and looking at the bass here, while a buyer save his duckies for purchase.
I am currently working on the Walnut Wonder. A great walnut short scale SI that will hit market with a new Jan-al case for @ $5K. It is an especially nice little bass that I will finish on soon and start posting pictures of oit in another thread. Actually, I have a veritable yard sale coming up soon of basses, amps, guitars, effects, Alembic toys, etc that will probably hit the block. Fun. If I cannot use it, someone else should. Even cables - and a very unusual item, when I get the rest of the parts together. A bodiless Alembic that would make nice wall art for someone. Again, I simply cannot look up at it.

Can't wait to see what you offer up!

I suspect you mean 500KB not MB ?, I bumped into that restriction early on here.
That is such a beautiful bass
-
oops...yes kb. thanks

-

Still more . . . .

Last batch.

Hey Mica - What would be the replacement cost of this bass as it is? That should be an interesting number. Hi Eric!
-
Well, it seems someone was impressed at how dusty I could get this bass, and it is currently on hold waiting for a deposit check. I think this is going to work out very well. It is simply the pretties bass I have ever seen.
-
What a work of art. So sorry that you're unable to enjoy it, Thomas. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.
-

+1, it's just gorgeous! Hope it goes to a good home. If I had the $'s spare I would have bought it.
-
Best wishes, sorry you have to sell. Incredible bass!
-
Just playing the cards dealt. It was really special just owning it, and time on this planet is fleeting, at best. As long as it gets played and loved, I'm good with it. Thanks for the wishes.
-
Wow, the price for Macassar ebony lams went up to $5,000. Well, gee, there is half my asking price . . . A deal is a deal, so I'll shut up! Damn - ebony neck lams went up to $3,150, and since the neck has purple heart lams in it too, ah this is killing me . . . Like I said, a deal is a deal, so . . . I do not want to look up no mo stuff, as I do not want to go back on antidepressants . . . I'm OK, you're OK!
-
Got a tracking number for the deposit check for this bass, so it is now considered sold by me. Nuff said.
