Title: Excel with dual pickups, but in reverse

I see many examples of Excels with dual pickups with the larger one at the bridge and the thinner one at the neck and was wondering....I would like to achieve that thick Excel tone of the single pickup version (Fatboy? AXY?), but with the added option of a sort of "J bridge" pickup from the MXY. So I guess I want the large pickup in the traditional Excel single pickup position and the MXY below it, for the bridge.


Is this a workable concept?  :P


Has anyone got one like this?

Alembic are a real custom shop and as long as they don't think it will sound dreadful it's an option you can ask for on a custom build. I'm sure they would make you aware of anything their experience showed was not a good idea.

I don't recall that we've made one with a pickup configuration like this, but there's no reason it shouldn't work fine. We use MXY pickups in bridge positions all the time.
