Some good stuff has been cooking in the shop for you lately, Jimy. Glad we can share these here... so many people want either no updates or by private emails only.
This is the neck, with Kris just getting ready to cut out the peghead shape.
-
Here's the body parts almost ready to glue up, and the backplate cut out ready for it's next steps.
-
Main backplate cut is resawn. This will form the interior and exterior of the the electronics cover.
-
The battery plate on your last bass was my favorite feature. I love the little snips of Rosewood and the tip of the hat to the old round battery plates. Glad we repeated this detail on your new bass.
-
Battery plate glued up. It's fun with the clear acrylic plates so you can see what's going on.
-
Main backplate getting ready to glue up. One of the Rosewood veneers won't be visible when we're done as it will be concealed by the silver shield. But we know it's there.
-
In the clamps, checking for the "string of pearls" glue line that Kris is so good at!
-
So serene, waiting for the glue to dry.
-
wow guys this was quick!
-
i rather share these pictures than get them private only. its more fun

Very nice Jimy. Took a moment to figure out this was a different bass of a similar design. I salute your leanings to the early patterns. ;)
-
thanks. as you might have seen, this is a short scale bass. the main inspiration for this bass was originally based on john mcvie's # 27 bass in maple.i decided to do mine in rosewood. J
-
I surely did notice that... my custom fretless (which must be very close to yours in the shop :D) is loosely based on John's Omega-cut fretless with the stainless steel fingerboard, and Jimmy Johnson's long lost 5-string Series bass, along with features from a couple other historic Alembics.
We should definitely get a picture of them together before they leave the Mothership. ;D
-
wow thats crazy you love the exact two basses i admire! john mcvie and jimmy johnson! what were the chances of that! amazing... J
-
Well, I guess the odds go up a bit in a place like this. ;D It's a neat coincidence, for certain.
Looking forward to the rest of your thread. Maybe Mica can work the magic and get our basses together for a photo-op sometime.

Just bumping Jimy's thread... was telling someone else about this build yesterday. (as a counterpoint to telling about my own build) ;)
