Hi folks - can anyone tell me if there is a Model Number for *ALEMBIC BROWN 4* or is this how it is formally known?
-
Hi and welcome to the Club!
A Brown Bass is basically a "Stanley" model http://www.alembic.com/prod/stanley.html with a period-correct body shape, a given choice of woods, the so-called Anniversary electronics package and an oil finish.

Hi TAM, I'm new here also, and I just bought a SC Brown. The browns have slightly more aggressive horns, very much to my taste ;) Not across the model number aspect though others here will know. Mine is BB14498, so as I understand it, SC Brown, 2014 build (delivered to dealer 26 Dec 2015 (from their website)) and number 498.

Richard, the serial number of that very tasty BB of yours reflects that it's Alembic #14,498 overall. True, the old serial number system started with the build year, then one or two letters to reflect the model (or none for a Series instrument) and finally the actual serial number - which basically started with #1 back in 1972. They no longer put the year in front.
BTW, the bass in my avatar is #14,507 - pretty close to yours, and it has a healthy dose of BB in its genetic make-up too. Official birthday was March of this year.

Hey adriaan, cool, thanks for clearing that up, I'd read about the counting from 1 and up, but also the year thing so I got a little confused. Hard to see your beauty very well in the avatar, can you point me at a bigger pick ?? So we are only 9 basses appart (http://adadepot.com/Smileys/default/thumb.gif) If it's anything like mine (and I'm sure it is) it's awesome...
So mine says 12/2/15 on the warranty card, so with your official birthday March means the date isn't US format and mines March 2015 also. It allegedly arrived at Bass Central 26th Dec 2015, wonder where it was in between ??

Some builds take longer to get everything just about perfect. It's not like they want to move as many instruments out the door as quickly as possible. And that sure is an advantage of buying an Alembic from a dealer's showroom.

"Brown Bass" is the official model name, "BBSB-4" is the official model number.

Well that's official then LoL, thanks mica, appreciated :)
