Just saw this ad:

Nice looking bass
-
Too bad it doesn't have what I assume by looking at it were the original Series electronics. Like the Cocobolo top.

Wow, I don't recall that bass. I'm not saying I remember every shop night bass, but that would be one to remember. Wonder what the rest of the bass looks like. Bridge looks like one made here, but of course the tailpieces are not. Truss rod cover seems unnecessarily strange.
Looks like a Rogue on the edge of the photo.

Mica, I am selling this bass, it was built by Bob Malone and is one of the most beautiful basses I have ever seen. It is the bass that made me start buying real Alembic's. I have it sold and the gentleman that is going to buy it had bought it years ago from the original owner and says that he is a former employee of Alembic as well. He said that he had regretted selling it and is so happy to be able to get it back. The original owner had removed the series 1 electronics and put Carvin electronics in it. I'm selling it because the neck is slimmer than I like and I prefer the sound of my Rogues and just don't play it much anymore. I will try to post more pictures of it.

I can't get the pictures to post. I'm using the attach button but the pictures don't appear. If someone can help me I'll post them. Thanks
-
Not sure why the attachments aren't working for you. You can email the picture to me or any moderator and we will be happy to post them for you.
I showed the picture around and nobody recalls this bass. Like I said before, that doesn't mean it wasn't made on a shop night, but Bob also made instruments on his own after he left our employment - perhaps this was among them? In any event, it sounds like a happy reuniting is happening, so that's great news.
I *did* spy the Rogue correctly on the edge of picture. One point for me :)

what do you mean with shop night bass??????????????
-
Occasionally Alembic allows their employees to build an instrument of their own on shop night. While not true Alembics, they do not have an Alembic logo and serial number, they usually do bear a resemblence to actual Alembics.
If you look in older threads you might find an anecdote of one or two shop night basses that were allowed an Alembic logo.
Probably the most famous (infamous? notorius?) shop night bass is one that was made for Jean Beaudoin, the 11 string Hideous Claw bass.

Here's a link to a thread which has pictures of the Hideous Claw.

Hideous Claw is certainly aptly named...
