OK Friends,
After many, many hours of dedicated work, we have a shiny new Alembic Club to post in. Yay! Big thanks go to moderators Adriaan and Dave, who did most of the work.
The paint is still wet in places and some of the doors are a bit tight, but the coffee maker seems to be working just fine. So let's get started.
There are a few things to attend to immediately:
- You may have to reset your password. Try to log in as usual, but if your password doesn't work use the Forgot Password link and get a new one sent to you. If your email address didn't transfer, email one of the moderators and we will edit your profile.
- Because of the differences in the software, your username and display name were set to match here. This way the posts will all look the same as they did on the original Club. You are welcome to change your display name if you wish, but people may not recognize you at first.
- We added a custom field of "Member Name" so that if you want to fill in your real name, people that are members will be able to see it when they click on your profile, just like on the original Club.
Some important differences to note in the new Club:
- Member profiles are only visible to other registered members. This was requested by many, but the old software did not allow for it.
- There is a 90 second "courtesy edit" period after make a post where you can make an edit to correct a typo. You can edit again up to a full day after you post, but after the initial 90 seconds you will see a notation that it was edited.
- You can sort posts by clicking on the header of the column. You can sort by subject, topic starter, views, replies, or date of last post. Sort away!
- Search works. Period.
- If you want to reduce the space between the top of the page and the first post, there is an arrow in the top right corner that will reduce it.
- Note that we've eliminated the archives and that each topic now contains all of its previously archived posts.
- You'll want to go to your profile and then to Modify Profile > Look and Layout. There, check "Return to topics after posting by default". It sounds confusing, but this brings you back to the topic you were just posting on, like the original Club. While you're there, you may want to increase the Topics and Messages to display per page to the maximum or whatever your preference is.
- We've enabled avatars, but please don't choose one that moves, as it makes some of us older folks a bit dizzy.
We had to set a lot of this up by hand, and we may have missed a few things. If you notice something that doesn't look right, like being able to start a new topic on a page where you know you shouldn't be able to do that, please let us know.
We still have a list of things we are working on, so you may see some subtle changes in the coming weeks.
This took a lot longer, and was a lot more work, than any of us expected. Part of the delay was due to a server problem that took more than a day to resolve, and during which we couldn't do much of anything. A big part of the delay was just that we were moving from a very outdated platform, which presented unexpected challenges in the conversion process. And a part of the delay was in the design of the new platform, which is somewhat less than intuitive.
But here we are, finally. Thank you for your patience, and we hope you like the new Alembic Club.

Speaking for myself, while Mica was nice enough to say that Adriaan and I did all the work, in reality it was she that lead us here, with an able assist from Adriaan. I helped keep things going by making coffee, tea, and oatmeal cookies.
Speaking for all of us, we've missed you all.
-
Well hello!!!
Smells really like fresh paint in here, excellent job guys and gals :) Thank you for the hard work in these 2 past weeks, I'm sure the new forum is a blast, I'm off exploring it now!
-
I would like to thank everyone. I am currently trying to get my email notifications in order again on all topics of this forum. I might require some guidance on that .

Look at you guys, posting like pros on this new platform already! Of course, you can operate Alembic guitars and basses, this should be a piece of cake :)
-
After a brief dispersal throughout cyberspace, my molecules have been recombined here at the Alembic Club. Thanks for the hard work and for providing this community space!
-
Good to see things up and running. I was starting to wonder if it would ever return and where I would go as an alternative. Thankfully I no longer need to worry about that.
-
:)What a great notice to see you all here again guys....
-
And by the way thanks again Mica for your help to recover my history here...
-
MANY THANKS TO MICA and the Team for making this site AMAZING!!! I have to admit I was really lost not being able to see what's happening. I have really been hooked on this site, and being "Newbie" made it worse! Whew! All BETTER NOW!!!!

Good to be back.
Am I the only one who checked like 5x a day for the last week? :)
-
Well, I killed the last week of withdrawal by going to Alaska (where the 'net is shaky anywho) to meet the newest grandson (Rudy, born March 19; unbearably adorable). In Juneau on the way home & checked on the hotel computater; YES! Now I'll see if I can actually navigate away from a new post without signing off.........

Copied from the other thread:
Looks great, thanx!
For some (me included) it will take some time to get used to the new format, but I'm sure it will fit like a glove in no time. Thanx to Adriaan for pointing me in the right direction!
I also loved the old board and I have to change the homepage of my browser for the first time since I got Internet (!) ;D
But so much more can be done in this format (at least in a easier more standardized way)
Goodbye old board and welcome new board :D

REALLY missed being able to do my daily drive-by. Hats off to all of you who labored mightily, seems to work just fine. Now to find a suitable avatar . . . . . . I love Mica's, imagine just how many axes have seen that look ! I was tickled that in true ALEMBIC fashion, it managed to take a wee bit longer, as they managed to include more good stuff than originally promised, again, so very ALEMBIC.
All the Best,
Joey

I can't seem to figure out how to put a pic in a post. Can someone enlighten me?

Use the "Reply" or "Preview" button to create your new post. Just under the bold "B" is the insert a picture from a website.

Or use "Attachments and other options" at bottom to include from your hard drive.
-
Thanks; I'd tried the "Attachment" thing & it didn't seem to work - I'll give it another go.

I seem to recall seeing a post that says there is still a size limit but don't remember what it was. 500K maybe?

Found it Moderator Dave posted on it here:

Beautiful bass Keith!

Beautiful bass Keith!
Thank you. The elves and nature did do a good job.
-
Another thing you can do is use a hosting site like Flickr and use img tags - they give you a BB Code link - I just erase everything except what is inside the img tags. Ends up looking like this:
-
Harry; are there any significant differences between that and just clicking the Insert Image icon like Keith suggested? Like this ...
-
Not sure - let's try!
It's basically the same thing - if you have the simple image link then it's basically the same thing - just have to make sure you find the right link! The basic "share" link Flickr gives doesn't work, I had to use the same address that I was using the img tags for above.
-
I'm not going to get involved in the ins and outs of posting photos, but I'm really glad you guys are and are using the examples provided! Great shots, guys!
