Title: Info Request
Post by: mpisanek on August 29, 2005, 12:51:19 AM
I have recently stumbled across a bass for sale and would like to know if you can give me any particulars on it.  The serial number is 02012752.  The bass was supposedly owned by a celebrity, any idea who it was???

I would be greatful for any info you might have.

Thanks,

Michael.

Hi Michael; Mica or Val will need to look that up for you when they get a chance.  The 02 refers to the year 2002.  The 12752 is the 12,752nd instrument built.  The 0 doesn't look right.  It should be a letter, not a number.  O is an Orion guitar, but you're looking at a bass.  Perhaps it's a Q, which would be a Rogue, or a C, which would be a Custom.  Can you look again and get a better idea on the letter?

Interesting; I've got 12752 listed in my tracking database.

I show it as a Europa 6-string, born 2/28/02.  02U12752.  I don't have any sales info on it, so it wasn't an eBay sighting.  Probably mentioned somewhere here on the forum, sometime.  A search on the number pops up this brief thread (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=2321).

Thank you all very much.  The serial number is actually  02U12752 as was re-confirmed by the seller.

The current asking price for the bass is $3595.00.  I don't know what the actual condition of the bass is but from pics it looks pretty good.

Well, G Guitars is offering a brand new 2002 Europa 6 (02U12730) for $7775.  So $3595 could be a very nice deal, if the instrument is in decent shape.

Bruce:

Did you actually see the bass?

If you did, what did you think of it?

Regards,

Michael.

No Mike, I didn't see it in person but have been to the Bass Alone site many times window shopping......

I was tempted to buy it.......but I have a Series I 5 str w/ SII electronics, an Exploiter with a factory installed Kahler Trem and a brand new Triple Omega Series II on its way someday soon ( FTC Custom 6 String for Bruce) plus quite a few other basses.

I have not dealt with Bass Alone, but have talked to John via email about a Fodera Monarch Elite fretless 6, that he had on the BA site for a while, it was gone from the site and I asked him for info on it, he was helpful and got me in touch w/ the owner ( he decided not to sell it)  some months later I came across it on the groove shoppe site and bought it.

I don't think you would be disappointed in the bass, as long as the previous owner took good care of it. ( it looks like Tye did from the pics).

I don't really like to buy an instrument without playing it first, but my first Alembic ( the series I) I bought  only from seeing pics and I was blown away when it got here ( it looked like it was never played !!)

Is there such a thing as a bad Alembic ?

That is it!  I think it's fantastic!

I could not see the instrument myself bacause Edinburgh, Scotland is a long drive from San Diego.  My only option was to get a friend to go in and see the bass for me.  He was not a player, but I gave him a list of some 20 or so points to check out on the bass!  John DiMaggio was great to me and to my friend.  He spent more than 2 hours with my friend and emailed me saying that my list was amazingly thorough!

The bass is now on its way over here and is in Derby, England at the moment.  I should see it this week.
