Title: My son coming to US to study ...how/where/who/which/what/whom???
Post by: palembic on February 06, 2005, 11:02:45 AM
Hey Bro's and Sis's,

now this is something NON-ALEMBIC so you can stop reading right here ...thank you.

Now for the rest.
My son has a bachelor degree in Business Communication. It is his dream to expand his tudies to a master degree -or a one year program- in audio-visual communication in a US school.
I know that there are some audio-visual production people member of this club and maybe there is some advice that you can give.
Even further: seen the high costs tot do this he asked if studying and working -as a kind of intermship- is possible too? A place to work, a plce to stay, a place to go to school.
All information and help is welcome.
BEWARE:
I put the question here but you can as well answer in private E-mail -see profile- as here. AS you know: one idea leads to another!
Thanks in advance for your help.

...and yes he speaks four (4) languages fluently.

I know little about A/V production. But I wanted to wish your son the best of luck in his search.

Brother Paul
Is there an area of the US or a school that he is especially interested in?  Interships are possible. I've known people who worked as interns at TV stations while going to school.  I wish him success. He seems an ambitious and adventerous young man.

That would depend on where he wants to be. NYC,  Jersey have many schools with relationships with major netwoks, cable and radio. Start there. Cost of living is high here but there are a lot of schools and all the major media is close by.

Hi brothers,
thanks Gary.
Keavin: great idea ...BTW he is keen on bassplaying too and he can be seen regularly finding his way on Broomsticks neck.
Sam and Danno: no ...no specific school or region. New York came to his mind but he found some info on San Fransisco too I think. Maybe some people in this club have experienced a certain school. Florida ... Montpellier ...Helena ...Tuscon ... I dunno.

PTBO,

My significant other's son just finished up at Massachusetts Communications College in Boston for recording engineering...

Yet another option.

Paul; I don't know anything about this school, but since you asked ...
From what I was able to determine, it is no longer called Massachusetts Communications College; the new name is The New England Institute of Art and the web address is:
http://www.aine.artinstitutes.edu/ (http://www.aine.artinstitutes.edu/)

Thanks Dave! I wasn't sure and I thought it was the other way around. I need to pay better attention to my surroundings!!!
