Here's me (on the left) and Dino (Dean M) at the Anaheim NAMM show this past Sunday.
As you can see, we're going for a really big sound.
Too bad they wouldn't let us bring our Alembics in there and jam away!!

NIce picture.
NOW I understand Mike why you find your Spider so HUGE and heavy HA!
Brother Paul the fake on I knew you were looking for a new home but ...I didn't know you moved to an Ampeg!
Where's the front door??
Paul the bad one

This comes with a remote control, right?
-
Naw, a stepladder and of those thingys you change theatre maquees with...
Mike

Watch out ...this is the non-motorized model and only for use with helicopters. Standard it comes on wheels with a Dodge Ram cabin and V12 engine.
Talkin' about growl hehehehehe...

does that thing really work or is it just for show?
-
It was great to meet you to Dino!! Hope to see you again sometime. If we come through St. Louis with the band I'll let you know.
Yes that amp really works, as did an equally giant Crate amp about 30 feet away from here. We decided, wisely, against any jamming.
And yes, Dino and I got along so well because we are both vertically challenged as you can see! No wonder I think my Spyder is so big!

Egads, a 15-foot Crate?! Never been so happy to be on the Left Coast(LOL).

Hey Guys,
Yeah so much for portability huh!!!!! Honey, we're gonna need a bigger truck.
Brother Paul, I told you we were building a bigger house... well there you have it.
Hey Danno I did get to speak to Trip briefly. Great guy and player.
Here are some specs on the SVT too.
It is (2) 300 watt all tube SVTs bridged together with one preamp. So you have a 600 all tube head into a 36x10 cab. Everything is functional on this and it's the second one in existence. The first one is at the Guitar Center in Hollywood.
How does it sound? No one knows for sure because you have to be about 100 yards away to hear the full sound wave. They said the entire rig weighs in at about 2500lbs.
Hey Mike, I'm still in up in Boston, but never-the-less, please buzz me if you get up here.
Peace,
Dino
-
2500 lbs ?
It comes with the tilt back casters right ?
-
Where was this rig back in the 1980's?!
Darrell
-
36 Tens ? Whoa !! something that big could have had some 18s and 15s mixed in, it looks like something Neil Young had on the Rust Never Sleeps tour, but I think they were only props.

Years ago I had something called an SV9 cabinet. It had 9 tens in it. They only made them for a couple of years. Sorry Dino but it sounded terrible.
Talk about Spinal Tap - This one goes to nine!
-
Hey Mike,
No need to be sorry man. Ampeg has made some dogs in the past. I admit it!!!
Hey Darrell, Jeff Pilson of Dokken had a rig very similar to this one on the Monsters Of Rock Tour. It was a 32x10 cabinet though. He couldn't use it because another bass player from one of the other bands complained that it was bigger than his rig.
-
Hmm...
That giant cabinet is the second one in existance? I dug around on the internet and found something v.v. similar on the Bangles fan forum! Didin't expect to see it there! I saw a photo with what looked like a 32 x 10 Ampeg cabinet and head with a darker, less sparkly (sic?) cloth over the cones. It was apparently at Manny's in New York, with a price tag of $25,000. Not sure where the photo is, but the walls of the shop were mid-blue in colour, if this sounds correct to anyone who's visited the store (bit far for me to check myself!)

I guess it's all been said by now, but that is one big monster................36x10
yes it needs some 15's
