The world have lost an amazing bass player today. Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen is dead.
He will be sadly missed

OH NO!!!
 
He was THE man who made me interested in upright bass. Quite frankly he was the ONLY one I ever enjoyed listening to on upright. When I heard him for the first time I thought he was the Jaco of Uprights.
 
How old did he become? I didn't think he was that old yet!

He died at 58. There is no info on how or why!!

Real sorry to hear that...I'll miss The Big Dane.
A few weeks ago I picked up a dvd of Oscar Peterson playing with both of his great bass players together, Pedersen and Ray Brown. I guess tonight would be an appropriate time to watch it. A great loss, for sure...he was one my favorite living upright players. Guess he joined the big band in the sky now...

Anyone have a link to a good discography, or at least a few other recommendations?

but it doesn't happen to include the only album I'm sure I have, Art of the Duo with him and Philip Catherine, which I'm about to listen to over dinner.
 
I'm nearly certain I've got him on at least a couple others, but none on this list.

Me too I knew him, though from only one record my brother had. Don't remember the title.

The Danish bassist of jazz, Niels Henning Oersted Pedersen, of international reputation, died Tuesday at 58 years of a heart attack, announced Wednesday by a representative.  
 
He died of cardiac arrest in his house of Ishoej, to the south of Copenhagen. It is a great shock for us because he was not ill and had just finished finalizing a tour of Denmark with his trio, declared Marianne Jul, his representative during last the 10 years.  
 
This musician, known abroad as the great Dane of [unpronounceable?] name, or simply NHOP, became internationally successful in 1973, upon joining the trio of Oscar Peterson.  
 
During the 35 years of his international career, he performed alongside such great names of the jazz as Oscar Peterson, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins, Bud Powell, Bill Evans, Larry Coryell, Joe Pass, [John Scofield] and others.

I ve just bought the cd Oscar Peterson and Bassist, with Ray Brown and NHOP, its really a sad loss.
