As a bassist, the Who, Live at Leeds is one of my favorites. John Entwistle was an original and showed many of us what a bass could do.

Absolutely, Live at Leeds has brilliant playing by Entwistle. It's an all time fave of mine, too! What a loss...

My favorire Entwistle bass part has to be The real me. When John came through Okla City he opened his show with that song. This show was played in a good size bar, but it was every bit as big and loud as a Who concert

Gale,
I remember and old Bassplayer magazine with pictures of the entire (?) Enthwistle collection. He specialised in Fenders and Gretches. BUT on the frontpage of the catern he showed off with an absolutely stunning Alembic SII, Explorer shape, V-peghead, Gothic inlays, exquise wood, sliver inlays of spiderwebs and individual tailpieces. NOt what you called a Stock Item.
Maybe someone here can dug out that picture somewhere. I think I lost the magazine.

Hi there,
my last message was about a picture I saw in a Bass-player. Well it turned out to be a Guitar player. This weekend I dived into my old stuff and magazines and ...there it was. The GP may '82 issue In Color: the Enwistle Collection.
The article was written by Tom Wheeler and the beautifull pictures were made by Gavin Cochrane. I post the famous picture of the Ox with his custom Alembic.
Tom Wheeler gave the following specs: bird's Eye maple top, figured walnut core, sterling silver spiderweb inlays, individual brass tailpiece for each string, Standard (????) Alembic electronics, graphite reinforced neck of laminated walnut and maple, edxtra-wide fingerboard with LED-side poistion markers, the names of various mucical notes inlaid in mother of pearl Gothis script, a radical V-shaped peghead.
Ain't that sweet?

Seems to be from the same photosession as the pictures on one of his soloalbums Too Late The Hero from 1981. Great bass !
