It's Saturday and I've had waaay too much coffee, so here goes.....
Alembic logo straps:
Val, you've wetted the appetite. Still waiting to see what they're gonna look like and what they're gonna cost.
Alembic String Club:
I love the CX-3 strings on my basses. I wind up mail ordering them from an online string club because the prices are soooo good. I'd rather send that cash to San Jose.
Peace,
James
-
James,
I fully share your impatience about the straps, since I've already signed up for 2 of them.
I've been promised by Mica that the pictures (which she took already) will be up sometime this coming week. The flu bug that bit almost everyone at Alembic has knocked back many of the office projects a few days.
The prices will be as follows: 80$ for pre-orders (which we'll start taking as soon as the pictures are up) and 95$ once they are in stock. How many we order at first will depend on the volume of pre-orders that we get.
I don' t know how feasible the string club would be, that is a decision for Susan.
Valentino
-
Thanks for the quick response Val. I'm fairly certain I'll be one of those pre-order types. Times 2, of course.
And if ya could, stand behind Susan and keep repeating in a slow, low monotone string club...string club...string club
Peace,
James
-
Let me be the second to second preordering two. (Has my English gotten that obscure? - Yes it has!)
Mike
-
I'd like to be the third to pre-order. By the way I'm with Malthumb: String club...string club
-
Ok, I'll be the fourth to pre-order one.
By the way, what you guys call a thong overthere is what we call a string overhere, a G-strings that is. So I don't know if all dutch and belgium people (except for one, but he's more into nylon stockings) will join the string club.
Manfred
-
Manfred,
I think a thong is the gent's version of the G-string. You know the Tom Waits song Pasties and a G-string? (Now how did we get from straps to pasties? And while we're on that G-string, we've just come full circle to Bach.)
And OK, I'll bite: string club, string club, string club ...

Hey I would like to have one of those Alembic straps too. Am I the fifth one ?
Let us know when these things will be available....
string club? may be a idea! ok, string club - string club.....
-
Okee let the Belgian dude play the dutch?
Any idea's what the price is going to be of those miracle straps???
(I don't dare to look ...it's going to be stockings time again.
Paul the bad one
-
Paul, are you sitting at the computer with your stocking on, as usual? the prices are listed above in my earlier post.

Actually...(how did we get onto this I'm not sure) in Europe from my experience a thong is called a 'tanga' (at least in mediterranean nations, I believe the name as well as the product originated in Brazil). The g-string has just a string on the backside (hence the name) a 'thong' has a little tiny triangle in the back.
Valentino
-
the perfect place for a little tiny Alembic logo.
-
.. and where else would you find such a bottom end ...
-
Yeah, it's called tanga and string tanga here in Germany. Wouldn't it be nice to have the Logo of the featured custom Alembic of this month on it? But I'm not sure if it would be very comfortable to wear while in sterling silver ;-)
Harald
-
Oh ...huh ...let me see: beer, female underware and some basses ...yeah right ...I found the Alembic club! Definitely!
Hi guys!!!
Paul the bad one
-
How about a sterling silver Alembic logo pin (ala vest pin or tie tack)?
-
A sterling logo pin on the back of that little triangle thong thingy? Better not sit down.
Manfred
-
The Alembic thong already exisists.

-
oops, I didn't know that there are so many alembic logo stuff things at caf?press. But I heard their t-shirts are very poor quality? Can anybody share this?
Harald
-
I don't know about the t-shirts. I have the crew neck sweat shirt and it's pretty good. It's just a standard cotton sweat shirt but the logo is well done.
Sam
-
Hooded sweat shirt is great and the logo on it is quite well done. I know nothing of the t-shirts, but I did have problems with other Alembic logo items I got from Cafe Express.
-
Guess I'm the sixth in queue for the Alembic Strap. Can't wait to see it. I do hope the Alembic logo will be prominently/proudly present on the strap.
Duncan
-
Do the straps come with a straplock system ?,
if not, they should.
-
I reckon they will fit the Schaller straplock system perfectly. These are available through any major music store.
-
Well ...
generally it's the basses that come with straplocks (though not all of them). I never had an easier time putting on straplocks on a strap (schallers). The leather is so soft it was a breeze.
Valentino
-
Ummm....Val....Your last post would make one believe that you have actually had your hands on one of these straps. Do I need to get palembic to come in here and demand pictures or you gonna volunteer 'em peacefully?
Peace,
James
-
Well, yes James.
we do have a sample strap, but Mica's the one with the pictures, I've been bugging her daily, and it's not that she doesn't want to , it's just that ...there's so much to do...and we ALL got sick in the last 2 weeks. and it was pretty hectic for while...Ron, Susan, Mary, Mica & me, not to mention some of the guys in the shop as well. Ron and Susan have been hit the worst, but we're all recovering ok, I guess. I hope to be back at work on Monday
Valentino
-
Yep I heard!
I phoned the evening I was driving to my gig to gather some encouragement and motivation talk. I met a lonely Mary on the phone who told about the flu-strike on the Alembic premises.
Moder, are you -apart from testing the outgoing basses- desinfecting them too?? LOL
Paul the bad one
Oh ....huh ....BTW pictures - pictures-pictures - com'on Pauls yell with me. However ...I feel a little uncomfortable ...to yell for a ...strap. We normally are devoted guitar-picture-yellers. Maybe we should discuss this first in the group.
Oh boy ...let me stop ...I'll get 2000 before I know ...THAN I'm in trouble
-
Val,
Thanks for staying on top of this one. Especially while riding out the flu. I want you to recognize that I'm not trying to be insensitive. Just poking a little fun at you. Having had the flu just before Christmas, I do know that there is absolutely nothing fun about that at all and I commend you for having the stamina to play along in my little thread. I'll turn down the jets and wait patiently. You get lot's of chicken soup and heal thyself.
Peace,
James
-
Val, Mica, Susan:
I share James' good wishes for everyone's return to comfort and good health. You guys work pretty hard. Actually, it's pretty impressive how you work as a team, covering each other as you can. You've kept my order going very smoothly these past weeks despite obviously tough circumstances. I know how hard it is to keep a lot of balls in the air on a good day - Much more challenging when nobody's at full strength and feeling well.
Thanks for all your help and take it easy as much as you can.
Bill
-
James,
insensitive is about the last word I'd use to describe you. You 've always been really nice, like just about everyone here. Plus, being Italian, bantering with friends is in my blood.
I thank you and Bill and everyone else who wished us a speedy recovery.
Valentino

Got the pictures posted in the announcement area (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=381). We're accepting preorders until February 27th, so call up either Valentino or myself at 707 523 2611 to make the arrangements.
Enjoy!
-
Great news! One question...Moody's generally offers two lengths, Standard (37-49)and Long (42-54). Is this the case with the Alembic straps?? Thanx.........
-
Yes, we'll have both lengths available, though Ali at Moody thinks the regular length is best for most. The straps are actually the same for both lengths, just the adjustment tail is longer on the Long version.
-
Mica/Val: I'll call you guys tomorrow (like most days lately) with preorders.
Bill
-
Well ...what can I say.
Very nice indeed.
I guess the other models are two-color + two materials (Black/brown, leather/suede)???
I really like the caramel colour of the demo, so ...I guess I'll have to wait!
Congrats to the design and production team.
Paul the bad one
BTW: if I look good at the pictures in the announcement-department ...do I see the shoulder of a Dragonwing peeping up? THAT strap on the Dragonwing ....wew!!!!!!
Huh ...and maybe even the fierce Moder Val-belly LOL
(Message edited by palembic on February 18, 2004)

Paul,
Actually, that strap was on the Dragon's Wing, The Dark Prince, and Erin-Oromion when I was there. All three felt comfortable with it...
Ken (TEO)
-
Brother Ken,
and how is Erin-Oromion doing.
Well ...if it's good on her ...it will definitely look good on Bonnie or one my until-now-till-secret-project-where-a-little-bit-of-Alembic-is-involved-but-I-can't-tell-you-yet LOL.
But ...the caramel will do. The nice thing on this leather is that it will get a very nice darker brownish patine over the years!!
Paul the bad one
-
Paul,
(Hey I'm supposed to be working...but when I'm home, I'm playing the bass, so...)
Erin-Oromion is phenominal. She looks great on the stand, and plays like a dream. In fact, I don't feel worthy to own something of such craftsmanship. My brother (who's the guitarist in my band) says the band sounds better now with me playing the Alembic. I can't wait for the day to end so I can go play her again...
Ken (TEO)
-
Well it is not quite on the scale of a new bass, but, the order is in for a new chestnut stap.
Thanks Mica, I will be looking forward to it's arrival.
-
I ordered a black one today. And I just received my Alembic sweatshirt from Cafepress today. This is starting out to be a pretty good weekend. Now if I can just win the Mega-Millions lottery (215 Million going tonight)...
-
James, Bill et all
Thanks for the good wishes for our return to good health. You know it's bad when Ron who btw Never gets sick won't read but Mica, what a gal, read the newspaper and technical journals to her dad. He's back in his lab now working away. I'm back at work as well I just can't talk yet, damn laryngitis. I think there are a few people enjoying that aspect at the office. I am reduced to writing notes for the next week.
Boy, I'm glad Val is back in the office- you all know him in the club pretty well but he's great to work with in real life.
You know we all gotta work but is it supposed to be this interesting and fun? I'd give that an enthusiastic yes! Thank you all for making our work fun and appreciated all these years.
Susan

It's our pleasure ma'm ...well ...oh ...huh ...mine anyway.
Please take good care of yourself all of you there.

Susan: It's my pleasure too. You all do quite a lot to make our experience as customers easy and pleasant (well, FUN!!). What I'm trying to say is that it's working for us (I'll be so bold as to speak for the group. But I think that's a generally safe statement.). Take good care so it works for you. I for one am looking forward to hearing the dulcet tones of your voice once again and to meeting you and others there in April when I'm in sunny CA with my family.
Bill
-
Susan; thanks for the interesting comments on the office. I'm glad your work is fun; and yes we do appreciate it!
-
Susan,
I think I speak for many of us here when we say that you, Mica, Ron, Val, Mary and the rest of the crew are like extended family. It's fantastic that you have fun creating our own personal masterpieces and tending to the little zoo you've created here.
Peace,
James

I heartily concur with the posts above, great working with you all!!
Good health,

-
Ron, Susan, Mica, and the entire staff at Alembic:
All I can say is that I'm glad you're all back in good health. You make the best bass guitars on the planet. Period. Not to mention, of course, guitars .. but I digress ...
One of my passions is cooking. Wish I was there to make you some chicken soup when you were ill ... I'd make the stock myself, much like you guys do with instruments .... make the components/parts yourself to guarantee the best quality....
Anyway ...
I'd like to pre-order two Chestnut Leather Straps. Let me know where I need to send the billing info, or who I need to call.
Best regards,

Hello Alan,
call me or Mica tomorrow at Alembic & we'll fill out your order.

Mica/Val:
Any news yet about the second strap order wave? While I have one of each of the first-wave straps on order, I'm still very interested in the caramel-colored one as well. Please advise.
