I was a member when it was a Yahoo group.

Having been named after my father, I'll never outlive junior status...That's okay, after 50 years, I'm used to it.
Title: Re: How many times
Post by: bob on February 10, 2004, 03:30:58 PM
I think you get to be a regular member at 50, and intermediate at 100. But I doubt anyone here really thinks of you as a junior, Gale.
Title: Re: How many times
Post by: kipknee on February 10, 2004, 04:17:41 PM
Isn't that interesting?  I never even noticed the Junior next to my name until your post(s).  I guess I just pay more attention to username familiarization and/or their date of registration.  The membership classification doesn't really mean anything to me.  I've been around since October of 2002, and I also was a member of the original Yahoo group, but I don't post that often, so I guess I'm doomed to be a junior until my demise.  :-)

Thanks Bob, but like hollis, I am a junior also, but have never got used to it in 52 years!

The threshhold is set to 50 posts to graduate. Currently they are:

New: 0
Junior: 10
Member: 50
Intermediate Member: 100
Advanced Member: 200
Senior Member: 400

We had a discussion about it a year ago, but I'm still trying to decide on the names. It can only be triggered by number of posts, and any suggestions are welcomed.
Title: Re: How many times
Post by: peter_jonas on February 10, 2004, 05:42:09 PM
Hi All,

My suggestions are:

Member: 0
Occasional Contributor: 10
Intermediate Contributor: 50
Regular Contributor: 100
Advanced Contributor: 200
Senior Conributor: 400

That way your membership to the Club is granted as soon as you register regardless of the number of your posts. Later on, depending on how actively you become involved, you can earn various degrees of the title Contributor.

This scheme also avoids the word Junior which (as we have seen) can potentially offend or irritate people.

Cheers,

Peter

I suggest we name the contributor levels after various grades of wood. We can all aspire to be burled coco bolo contributors.

Guys ...you make me feel very bad. What can I say? I'm over 1000 so must be nearly dead. I don't feel very important, anluy a big white one big a big mouth and not always having something senseful to say. I didn't lived though the Yahoo period -yeah ...I missed al that fun- but have 1000. I know some people here who are the most silent people I ever know but as soon as they open there mouth it is printing time.
I suggest we forget about the postnumbers. I don't know what it serves. We all proved as Alembic-players to be open minded, eager to learn, and respectfull against every opinion. See for yourself: our beloved moders Val en Mica are complete out of work modering: Val isa testing basses in the company Mica is running. LOL

Paul the bad one

PS: let's ask the Elf department in this club to give us names. Nobody will understand a damn.

Post by: adriaan on February 11, 2004, 05:45:21 AM
Why do we need degrees? Why not just post the number of postings with the registration date. After 5 year, 100 postings is no longer Regular.

Another good idea might be to add a first name next to the login. Other than that, let's keep this forum simple and graceful, not loaded with icons and emoticons and who-knows-what-else.

I like David's idea about wood names.  Veterans like P(TBO) could have quilted cocobolo status.  Or we could have something like:

Excel
Essence
Rogue
Europa
Series I
Series II

Let us not forget; Skylark, Further,Tribute, etc....I know the strings are tiny but they have a mighty voice.
Joking aside, I like the idea of categorizing by instrument or wood names.

Okay...

Stuff the smileys in a silk stocking, drown them in beer, run them over with a Harley, ship them to Belgium via UPS just to be sure they're really dead, then murmur some prayer for them in Elvish, bury them beneath a new tree that will grow up to become an Alembic, figure out how many pictures we're going to demand, and how many posts will need to be written in the process... and we can finally get back on topic.

What were we talking about, anyway?

A hearty congrats to you!!  Look at how much you've accomplished today!!  I AM joking!  Moving from Junior to Member was memorable.  Becoming an Intermediate Member was an absolute heart-stopper.  I hope I can live up the the lofty expectations that come with promotion to Advanced Member!  (With more thoughtful, provocative and informative posts like this one, my goal looms closer, closer, closer...)

Okay, look, this just isn't the right forum for this mother-daughter stuff (she's no junior, yes I am)...

I can't think of a single word to describe either of you (moderator doesn't even come to mind), but seeing back-to-back posts from you two is a rare treat.

Looking forward to seeing you both in person again in a few weeks.

Brother Henri,

I don't own this bass (alas) but I had the occasion to play it for 1 hour in Edwins shop. Veeeeeeeery smooth and beautiful sounding.
Well made. It IS and STAYS a favourite of mine. Now you have to understand I like many basses. I have that problem with woman too which is far worse ... as a problem!

Hey guys and gals.  I have a neighbor that plays bass professionally.  He is a Sadowsky freak.  He has as many of those as I have Alembics.

I don't get it.

But that's ok, neither does he!
