My Spoiler is turning 16 today. The spec sheet says 3-24-88, so there you have it.
It's her first birthday with me, and I wish myself many happy returns!
-
hey! adriaan, so what does the spoiler get for its birthday? a set of new strings perhaps,or a new rig?
-
Hadn't really given any thought to presents - I just happened to see the spec sheet this morning. Guess it's about time she gets strung with those new SloWounds I bought her last month!

Mayhaps a little lemon oil on the fretboard?
-
Good suggestion, the ebony certainly looks a little dry between the ovals (behind the ears too, so no worries). Now the big question: what do they call lemon oil in Dutch? There's some cleaning liquid on the market that they call citroenolie, but it isn't the pure stuff.
Brother Paul TBO - are you still using the extra-vergine olive oil?
-
I've always wondered, how can something be extra virgin? It either is or isn't, right?
Do olives have some special property that's missing from the rest of nature?
Oh well, break's over, back to practicing.

Not sure, adriaan, but here you can get pure lemon oil in heath food stores, maybe try one of those.
And happy sweet sixteen to your little one.
-
Thanks for all the kind thoughts. Sweet little 16 ...
Mica, is that type of lemon oil intended for human consumption too? Or just for cleaning purposes?
And Sam, you naughty creature, you're trying to reinvent human nature. Good luck!

Lang zal ze l???ve - lang zal ze l???ve - lang zal ze l?ve in de gloria , in de gloooo-riiiiiiiii-aaaaaaa, in de gloooooooooo-riiiiiiii- aaaaa!
Hip - hip -hip ...
Lemonoil = Limoenolie.
Have a peep in the bodyshop (no ...not yours Sam) or het Kruidvat. In the Netherlands are LOADS of that kind of stores.
I keep with the extra light touch of olive oil 2 times a year. Normally when I change strings (I can't afford to change strings more often right now, things are going better now seen my new job so ther will be more money spend on strings).
I do agree however that the lemon in the oil can have a more cleaning effect.
Sam ...good question on that extra virgin. Can you imagine the guy saying No ...not you ...I will only marry an extra virging (oh-oh ...ther I go again ...).
In this case however I think that a combination is meant between the first pressing of the olives, the force of that press and the fact that the olives are not pre-heated. So extra virgin means first press, with light force on not heated olives.
An Alembic only diserves extra virgins.
The place is loaded with extra-virgins to make our basses. You can only enter the temple as an extra virgin ...kinda vestile thing ...
oh ...huh ...I got to stop myself.

Brother Paul TBO,
It's double Dutch time again! If you say 'limoen' in Flemish, do you mean the same as a 'lemon' in English? What the Dutch call 'limoen' is what the English call 'lime' - a small green version of the yellow lemon that we call 'citroen'.
I assume that lemon oil is some sort of oil to which they've added a lemon extract, but that makes me wonder if they could be using different types of oil base?
-
Brother Adriaan,
oooooops ...yessir ...my mistake.
But to be honest, if I remember well from former posts of Mica, Lemonoil is oil pressed from the peel (????) of Lemons. It's essential oil, it's why you find it in health-stores I guess.
So not oil with a lemon extract in theory.
PTBO
BTW: Lemonoil is a famous (well ...oh ...huh ...locallly) Spanish brand name of suntan oil. In origin made of a mixture of lemonjuice and olive oil.

Adriaan, Paul,
I bought a small bottle of lemon oil at a local healthstore in my hometown Leiden. www.stringsdirect.co.uk (http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk) also sells it, Jim Dunlop has it but I forgot who is the distributor for the netherlands.

Manfred,
How much did you pay? I just checked a health store close to my workplace and they have regular essential lemon oil for 6 euro (small bottle) or premium quality for 25 euro (same size!) - I must say I could smell the difference, but even 6 euro seems like a lot of money.
