Title: Strings for an Epic 4

I have tried several brands of strings on my Epic and I'm not satisfied with any of them.  I've tried Alembic, GHS Boomers, Hartke and several others.  Can anyone please be so kind as to share their experiences with different types of strings they have used on their Epics???

I've been quite satisfied with Dean Markley Blue Steels on my Epic 4 string (45-105).
I'm happy with the sound, the feel, the price, and the ability to stay in tune.

I've had DR High Beams on my fretted Epic since last September. I change them about once ever 2 months or so. That would be three sets now. Before that, I was using Alembic CX-3 (string club, string club)

it all depends on what sound you want,  .but, it sounds like to me that youre trying to get that (SERIES) bass sound my friend! and that can (only) come from a (series) bass!. try taking out a loan on your house or somthing, and getting a series I or/II in order to quench your thirst!!

bracheen---we have the same Epic!!!!!that zebrawood top gets more oohs and ahhs from people who see it...keavin---you're right about trying to get the series sound...i'm trying to sell one of my kids since i'll need the house to keep the series in...

sam---i wish i could post a picture for you but i don't know how...i imagine i would need a scanner which i don't have...the only difference between yours and mine is that my bass doesn't have the 'seam' down the middle...otherwise they are identical.

I've always dug DR Lowrider's,50-110 the heaviest they make,for my Epic 4.They sound great and last a good while longer than most.My Epic looks a lot like Sam's pictured in this thread.Could be twins as a matter of fact.Your's a 94'Sam?It looks real cool.I love Zebrawood.

'94, that's right Dave.  Love it, it's in my lap right now.  Zebrawood aesthetically is my favorite though I'm developing a real taste for walnut lately.

i was thinking about trying some low riders as i feel i need a bit more tension than the ernie balls i am using do you play a lot of slap smokin dave how do you think they work for slap and fast fingerstyle

lowriders are very good for slap & stretch style of bass playin ,thats what marcus miller uses thats (his) sound!

but one word of wisdom you you epic guys, you still wont get that 'series sound' no matter what kind, or how clear or bright your strings are !.  (the series stand alone atop the basschain!)

Yeah,you can slap 'em till the cows come home.Especially the heavy's.I'm not a big slapper myself though.I really like 'em for blues gigs but what sets them apart for me is the enormous tone they produce.Very musical.

cool i am thyinking of trying some d'addario strings as i played my friends bass at the weekend and it was strung with them and i really liked them they have good tension his bass is not alembic though so i look forward to how they sound on jazzmine

i tried a set of DR Lowriders on my Epic and they have been the best so far...I'm hesitant to try Rotosounds because I've heard they wreck the frets.  I'd like to thank all that replied.  Your responses were of great help.  Still wish I could post a picture of my Epic.  I will as soon as I figure out how.
