Title: Playing in China

I'm thinking about going to Beijing, China in September. The AC voltage there is 230/50Hz. I would like to take a small combo amp (110/60Hz) with me since I have no idea what kind of amplification will be available there.  I was wondering if anyone has any experience using AC converters.

My wife melted a curling iron that she brought from the States in Dublin using a converter.
Never tried one with an amp but I'm leary of them now.  If you have a promoter on the China end maybe he could arrange renting something for you.

Use a big transformer converter with ample filtering, not a simple diode-bridge converter.  I wonder if a multi-voltage UPS would work?  I've done stuff in the Soviet Union (1990) and the voltages were wildly variable, so I suspect China will be much the same for you.  Ironically, the Communist Party used Carvin stuff for nearly everything.  Sounds like a neat opportunity...
