I've got front row seats for Al Yankovic tonight.

I hope Steve Jay brings his Alembic.

Weird Al rocks, I saw him last year and Steve was not playing his Alembic, but it was a great show.

have a great time, and wear an Alembic shirt and make Steve feel guilty

If you have a chance to chat with him, I'd be reallying interested in hearing the story behind his first Alembic (long scale Series I point, a '79 or '80 perhaps).  I'm pretty sure I know part of it.  It was in the Alembic brochure in '83 or '84, and I spent some time with it prior to then, if it is indeed the same instrument (which I'm pretty certain it is because of the markings of the wood top).

I saw Steve last week when Weird Al played in Santa Rosa. He played his Stanley Clarke in Ziricote most of the show. On the Nirvana song he played a Warwick Dolphin. I think he also played a Dean, but I wasn't sure.

What he showed us before the show was a really cool acoustic instrument called a psaltry. You use two bows on it, and the strings are really alive.

You'll find Steve very accessable, usually out near the bus. He always has time, especially for the enthusiastic kids!

Did you catch his article in Bass Player recently (Music as a Life Form)?

It was an amazing show.  29 songs (more or less, there's a big medley in the middle of the show) including a cover of whole lotta love.

Steve played his Alembic on 17 songs.  The rest were mostly on the Warwick.  On Smells Like Nirvana he used what looked like an EB-3.  He also used a Dean 8 string on Fat & Yoda.

Wierd Al is the best! That is, right behind Devo, but I'm sure I'll take some abuse for that ;)

WHAT??? Have you forgotten The Tubes? Nothing exceeds like excess! My favorite alltime band.

My wife and I saw Weird Al with his wife & kid shopping for bread in Costco last week.
