Post by: mica on December 30, 2009, 01:11:31 PM
I'm going on a short vacation in just a few minutes. But I didn't want to leave the Club without a new Featured Custom to enjoy. Please visit  She (http://www.alembic.com/info/fc_she.html) and I hope you all have a wonderful New Year celebration.

the neck is whats getting me, its so weird seeing purpleheart on oneside, and then mahogany on the other while expecting those 2 laminates to be the same, insane!

I think the only purpleheart is right down the middle. Ebony, Mahoganey on both of the outsides

I see what you mean, but part of the neck looks like it's pinkish, maybe just me

Oh, The Bird of Prey 5 string concept, with frets...

I remember the Bird of Prey custom feature a few years ago.

The only thing I could conger up on those style of basses, is having a paper sign stating: Please Don't touch.

Without question, those basses are complete works of art.

Over the top cool.

I've always loved Val's Bird of Prey design but in quilted coco-bolo it just jumps to a whole new level. The positive/negative effect on the back is incredible.
However, unlike Hal, I'd be encouraging everyone to play this instrument if 'She' were mine. Beauty like this is meant to be shared.

Oh no Jack, the paper sign was a metaphor to express emphasizes of it's exquisiteness; like a rare painting in a museum, or a fine arts galore.

I too, understands the great and immeasurable returns one receives, in sharing things with others.

However to share something like this, requires owning. So unless somebody wants to give me this bass to share with you-all, I would be an unlikely candidate.

Best wishes to Valentino's design.

Peace and Love -

Thanks to Mica and Susan and, of course, Val, for this one.  She is amazing every time I pick her up.  Shared her last year at the Chicago get-together and will next time we meet.

Best wishes to all for 2010.

its nice to see that slab of wood finally get to be a featured custom, especially since i have some of it on scarlet. Looks just like val's bird of prey
but the wood is so much finer.
dave- aint it cool the way the wood looks bubbly?

there ought to be a thread for those of us who got to own a piece of the crappy no one will like it piece of junk.
maybe i will start one tmrw

WOW!!! SHE is Stunning, a beautiful masterpiece. If i had the resources to order a custom. She is so close to what I'm looking for in a woman/bass these days. Sorry my list of descriptive adjectives is so utterly lacking, so i'll just leave it at that. Now excuse me whilst I clean the drool off my mac book now. ....Bear

It's a beautiful instrument, even though I'm not overly fond of the shape.  Love the continuous backplates - absolutely gorgeous.  Congrats.

I was always wondering where this bass went since it first showed up in the background of someone else's FTC photos.... When it made the group shot at Chicago, that set my mind at ease (it wasn't stashed away or behind some glass display)....  Next up, a Bird of Prey 8-string?!?!!?

The other bass I wonder about I saw at the factory  in '05. It was an Omega Balance K Buckeye Burl body w/ an Ebony/Purpleheart neck. I want to say it was a 5-string... Absolutely stunning. Anyone else see it (or own it)?

David,

Congrats on the Featured Custom!

It's a beautiful instrument. All the little detail touches add up to a stunning instrument. I certainly enjoyed seeing, touching, and playing it at the Chicago gathering.

Thanks, everyone.  I'm also glad to see the picture with Mica as it underscores the fact that She (that's what I always call her, but I'm just getting used to capitalizing the s) is not a stay-at-home bass.

So, everyone, don't be afraid to take yours out of the house.  Check your insurance and be extra careful when the temps are extreme (as they are here now).

By the way, I've been playing a slow game of custom knobs with THG.  I have almost all of them now, and will post pictures when the whole set is here.  I think Quilted Coco knobs with LEDs will make Her even better.

Yeah man, That temperature thing is a killer, I had a gig on the 23rd of last month and it was very cold....I could see the strings pulling away from the fingerboard. I did not play it that night intsead I used my doublebass and Wittman custom stereo 5 string. My Wittman luckily was converted to accept the 5pin jack that the Alembic uses.Do you have an edress for the custom knob maker?

By the way, that is a bad assed bass that you have! And I agree, I bought my Alembic to play, and if weather permits and it doesnt affect the fingerboard I'm gonna spank dat bitch! It's just a tool!I'm sure Alembic didn't make these babies to just be hung up and looked at like some rembrant. Pluck em' my bass brothers! Keep it low! Peace!

Having touched this instrument in Chicago, I have to say that the pictures do not do it justice.  It is fantastically beautiful.
