Does anyone have any idea exactly what all those knobs do on Phil Lesh's Big Brown bass (aka The Godfather)?
-
I know some of those knobs were some 'super filters' and it is a quadrophonic stereo bass & it has some super sonic low freq's that could rumble your balls!!!....(http://club.alembic.com/Images/449/25092.jpg)

I can't recall if that topic has been discussed before. My guess is that it's a couple of superfilters, similar to an SF-2, with maybe a pickup selector and some other routing choices. But I'm just guessing.

It's one of the first SUPER ALEMBICS!.....

Wasn't Lesh's quad bass the Alembic with the pots arranged around 2 or three star shapes, rather than the moded Guild Starfire, above?

Hey Bill,
They are/were (the Osage Orange is no more) both quad basses. Phil says in his book he never figured out what all the knobs did on the Godfather.

What happened to the Osage Orange?

Charles; I believe it's been mentioned in other threads that the bass became a test bed.
