Title: Washburn bass

i found myself down in frederick md this past weekend. my girfriend has a friend that works at GC in rockville. he called to tell me he had a viliette bass there that he would hold for me.
went over and found i didnt like it. 35 scale and i felt the workmanship was not quite there. did sound ok though but they wanted 1300 for it.
turned my head ans say a nice bubinga bass
turned out to be an older xb95b.
bartolini pickups bolt on- made in usa.34 scale
the asking was 750. i neogtiated down to 550 and grabbed it
let me tell you- you guys know i collect. this is the best sounding 5 string outside alembic i have found for a budget price- threw on my TI flats and this baby is awesome
i got one of the older models- 1 truss rod and no buzz feitin tuning. the new ones are app 1500
highly recommend keeping an eye out for this or the older one

Nice wood Jeff.  I had no idea that Bubinga looked like that.  Looks similar to Zebrawood in your photo.  What kind of bridge is that?

I hate to burst your bubble, dude, but if you look closely you'll notice that this bass is neither bubinga or a 5 string!  Youse got robbed!!!!

I totally agree.  Nice bass.  I had been playing Washurn basses (couple of 4s and an 8 - all neck-throughs) up until I had to sell them to order the Alembic in '81.  Washburn has made some really nice stuff over the years, and their prices have always been good.  Not Alembic, but certainly not junk either.

Ha!  I was at GC/Rockville this past saturday as well!  Was doing my quarterly guitar-shop hopping.. GC, Levin's, both locations for Atomic Music, Victor Litz.  And I live in Frederick to boot!

Hey, I've been to Rockville MD a few times - main office of the company I work for is there. I kind of figured Chuck Levin's store must be close, just never had the opportunity to pay a visit.

Perhaps I should have added that I live in Europe ... I remember there's a pretty good bookstore near the Ramada Inn, with plenty of 'alternative' publications, and a restaurant with a micro-brewery - they had a pretty decent stout on tap there - but I'm talking 7 or 8 years ago.
