Okay,
I'm not content to hijack someone else's thread (ha! since when has that ever stopped me?!), let's start a new thread about Leslie cabinets, specifically using them with stringed instruments.
Especially using them with a bass.
I'd really like to know if you've done this, and any tips and tricks or things to watch out for.
The old thread was here:

In Addition/Response to the comments about Motion Sound amps in the other thread: My keyboard player plays through one, and it sounds excellent. The build quality is very good, and it really does capture that Leslie sound in a much, much smaller package.
The low end is nice and solid at moderate volumes, and I can't see any reason why you couldn't run a bass through it, though the output would be very low, and it'd have to be mic'd.
Cheers!

I haven't played bass through one, but I think I will give it a whirl, so to speak, at the next opportunity.
Occasionally we run our guitarist through one when we play Badge (with a quick swap of cords into the keyboard player's setup), and it sounds pretty neato. And it does put out some serious low end.

Its pretty rare that bass ever gets played through a Leslie, usually its guitar ( Clapton, Frampton, Harrison, Allman and many others played through a leslie)
Although I read an interview with John Paul Jones in one of the bass mags he played his bass through one on Heartbreaker, its very subtle and you can hear it when the bass comes back in after Page's solo

Didn't Phil Lesh play through one (or still does?)
So many cabinets come with the Henry Ford aesthetic-- you can have any color as long as it is black tolex or carpet. Feh.
Those Leslies though... beautiful.
Might have to find myself an empty case and roll one of these:

i know phil was using one last time i saw him. Leslies seem pretty popular on the jam band scene,im pretty sure Mike Gordon uses one, and i know Trey Anastasio uses 2 of them. I seem to remember one or two of the guys from moe. using them, as well.

I'm thinking about getting an empty or dysfunctional 122 or 147 cabinet and doing bad things to it. There's plenty of room to put downfiring speakers in there.
I suspect that figuring out the proper parameters for the cabinet will be tricksy, since it has those vents and whatnot.
I have a whole head full of bad ideas.
