Title: A nice Phil Lesh & Friends recording
Post by: tom_z on April 11, 2006, 12:09:50 AM
Here (http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=21611 target=_blank) is a really nice little recording of acoustic Phil and (some very good) friends.

 Here's a sample (http://audio47.archive.org/2/audio/1994-09-24.paf.sbd.zelner-vernon.14071.sbeok.flacf/phil94-09-24d1t10_vbr.mp3).

Very cool.  I love Bird Song, probably my favorite piece that my band plays.  So how do you set up the link?  I remember suggesting people posting recordings of their work and Dave or Mica saying it couldn't be done.  So how did you do it?

Bill, the link was already on the archive.org page. You can download or stream that show in any of several formats including mp3. I merely linked to one of the streaming mp3 files provided by the archive.

The whole show is quite nice and if you download the lossless FLAC files, you can convert them to WAV files and burn them to CD for a nice crisp recording.

Does anyone know who built the bass that Phil used for that gig?!? IIRC it was a flat top acoustic six string.... anyone?!?

Bill -  here (http://www.archive.org/about/faqs.php#99 target=_blank) is the entry from the Archive FAQs. If you're a Mac OSX user I recommend using  xACT (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21952 target=_blank) instead of MacFLAC as it will also decode SHN files (and other formats) and allow for encoding as well. Other club members may have alternative recommendations for Microsoft OS users.

I use FLAC Frontend (http://wiki.etree.org/index.php?page=FlacFrontend).

Thanks guys.  Decoded, burned, and I'm listening to it now.  Next I'll make a label for it.  Ain't computers grand??!!.  Now does anyone have the link to a program to convert shn files to wav?

Bill; for that purpose I use the MKW Audio Compression Tool (http://www.etree.org/mkw.html).
