Can anyone tell me how much of the core is exposed at the ball end?  I just want to know if they will fit properly on my basses.  The distance from the tailpiece and bridge vary from bass to bass so this is important on this type of string.  I checked the Dean Markley site and nothing is mentioned of this.  I would think that this would be the first thing they would mention about this type of string.  Anyone here know?

Hey Michael,
 
Although I can't give an exact answer,  I use the Fender measuring stick.  If you have the length from your tailpiece to bridge as on a Fender, they'll probably fit ok.  Fenders (and their copies) are after all, the most commonly played Basses in the world.

Rami - Makes a lot of sense.  The problem is that I do not have a Fender to measure.  All of my basses are Alembic(ish).
 
Can someone measure a Fender for me?  Please don't make me go to Guitar Center with a ruler.

Hey Michael,
 
I measured 1 1/4 or 3 cm on my Jazz Bass.  That's where the winding starts.  The actual distance from where the string is anchored to the saddle is just over 1.  
 
On my Essence, I measured almost 2.  That string should have at least 2 of exposed core to make it on your Alembic.

Thanks!  I guess I will have to go with a Rotosound 99 if I want an exposed core.

FWIW
I used Superwounds (they are now in the Rotosounds gamma I think ...maybe the Rotosound 99 where you are talkin' about)on my MArk King 4s loooooong time ago and it fitted very well.

I don't know the exact measurements but I've been using SR2000s on my Elan and Orion for years and swear by them.  
If you need measurements I can certainly do that for you but I think Rami has it there already.

The SR2000's are fantastic strings, with them being slightly heavier than a standard set especially the A string-.87, that string always seems too thin just(tonally speaking) as an .80 gauge to me. They've been very consistent from set to set and they intonate quickly!
