Title: Two series I's but both with significantly different outputs and Q phase

Just bought a second Series I and when I plug them into my amp, they have very different output levels.  One sounds like it's on steroids; the volume of the instrument is significantly higher and the Q filter sweep is more pronounced.  This is my first Alembic so it's got the power I'm used to.  
 
The new(er) Series I isn't as dramatic in either manner.  
 
A friend suggested I need to adjust the trim pots.  Are there any threads on the proper way to adjust these?  (and for those of us still asking; are the trim pots the four recessed screws found on the main cover plate on the back of the bass?)  I'd like to bring my new bass up to the 'jolt' of the one on steroids, unless someone can suggest otherwise.

The trimpots thread is at the bottom.
 
I have series I and series II basses, and when the trimpots are adjusted the same they both have equal outputs.  
 
The woods DO make a difference also, so if your basses have different top and body woods that could contribute to any percieved differences also.

As shown in the photos in the trimpot post that glocke referenced, the two pots that adjust the gain are the ones on the outside.
