Title: Just for fun, Jackass trivia.
Post by: blazer on November 17, 2006, 02:23:04 AM
I assume that there are people on this forum who dig Jackass and have seen the second movie and are also familiar with what preceeded and what came after the TV series. So for those I have made a little trivia just for fun.

1. How many people called Brandon appear in Bam Margera's spin off series Viva La Bam ?

2. Danger Ehren, Johnny Knoxville, Party Boy and Wee man are all nicknames. From which Jackass member is the nickname Garbage Man ?

3. Which member of the Jackass cast used to be a Circus clown and actually has Ringlin Bros' Circus school degree?

4. Jackass was preceeded by the CKY homevideo's of Bam Margera and of the video releases of a Skateboarding magazine run by Jackass director Jeff Tremaine, what was the name of that skateboarding magazine?

5. Jackass spawned three spin off series. Viva La Bam and Wildboyz. What is the name of the third spin off, presented by Ryan Dunn?

6. Don Vito is Bam Magera's uncle but what is his real name?

7. Almost all of the jackass cast are either professional skateboarders or snow boarders, but which member of the cast used to be a a professional truckdriver?

8. Which cast member of Jackass had the name of the show staple gunned to his butt?

9. And which cast member of jackass has Your name tatood on his butt?

10. What is Johnny Knoxville's real name?

Okay, have fun figuring it all out.

I ain't seen Jackass 1, 2 or TV, but I saw a takeoff skit that Mad TV did with Oprah running headfirst into a porta potty and it sliding down a hill into a tree and also a bunch of jackasses and a fake Kenny Rogers (not Pine Tar boy, but the crooner) getting drunk and having a milk drinking contest, then beating the crap out of each other with baseball bats. I know this is somewhat off topic, but I do like to share.

Blazer,

In the world there is fun, there is seriousness, there are people doing stupid things, there are people doing unforgivable things, there are people doing nice things, there are people doing completely unselfish things, there are people making a contribution to the general welfare of the population at large if not the world as a whole.

You know all that, and you still think your life is incomplete if you don't get to watch Jackass?

In the words of the unforgettable what's-his-name: grow up.

Well Adriaan. I'd rather see Johnny Knoxville doing something really stupid just to amuse people than to see world leaders doing something really stupid and igniting wars with it.

To quote another unforgettable man, Frank Zappa: Whatever you can think of to have a good time, let's get on with it as long as it doesn't cause a murder.

Jackass is definitely over the line, the cartoon definitely is not. Why?

The intellectual excercise to go beyond the accepted is how mankind manages to make any progress. Not wanting to go there takes you into creationism territory.

The physical excercise to go beyond the accepted is how science manages to make any progress. Not wanting to go there - etc. etc.

Stupidity is not when someone doesn't know what's good for them - it's when they don't know what's bad for them.

Adriaan,

Generally, I find your input insightful. However, as a Christian, I must take acceptance to the implication that creationism, the basis of Christianity, is intellectually stunted. Many contemporary, ground-breaking scientists are guided by one faith or another and some fall into the ?creationist? category.

Expression of thought is a freedom that is too easily taken for granted and should be exercised by all and I respectfully don?t intend to stifle yours; I just ask that potentially inflammatory comments not be posted in this forum.

Mike, I'm pretty sure you meant to say take exception, but if you really feel acceptance, then I congratulate you on your own freedom of thought (please understand that I mean that in a gentle, humorous way).

I know I should just let this drop, but since you got at least one amen so far, and I won't be surprised if there are more, I kind of feel like offering a little support to Adriaan here.

Creationism is faith, not science, and to confuse the two - or worse yet, actually teach it as science - is something that I personally find inflammatory, and am absolutely convinced is intellectually stunting.

Pretty much by definition, faith is something not even intended to be supported by the scientific method. The fact that some, probably many, respected scientists also happen to have some religious beliefs doesn't change that. People certainly have the right, and will undoubtedly continue, to believe in just about anything they choose, even in ways that are inconsistent. This doesn't necessarily make them stupid, or wrong; nor does it prove them right.

Perhaps Adriaan didn't really need to make that particular point here, but then again as far as I'm concerned this entire thread isn't very well suited to this forum, and I happen to appreciate his effort to cut it short.

Though it was nice to see that cartoon again...

I must admit, I've never heard it said that creationism is the basis of Christianity. I have always understood that LOVE is the basis of Christianity.

Before this thread goes any further I thought I might point out that, given his prior comments (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=283), the moderator is likely to get a bit concerned.

Thanks to Bob and Tom for adding some transparency  and relief into the mix.

To our refined moderator, I hope we can keep the discussion in the same spirit that kept the one about drugs in line.

Mike,

I can hear you on a couple of levels, and do not wish to imply that an adept of any faith is a priori intellectually stunted. Let's keep the communication going, I'm not trying to be the next Richard Dawkins.

My main point is that you'd be hard put to find a non-religious person who sees any point in creationism. If you accept that, then maybe you can also accept that creationism is a hybrid between science and orthodoxy. Take out the orthodoxy, and you have regular biology. How much orthodoxy do you need to add to an exact science? But perhaps you think biology is not an exact science.

Like Chuck pointed out, science is at best a guess. Faith is certainly not a guess, it's a conviction - and I'm pretty sure we can agree on that.

The advrider.com website has a wonderful forum for threads such as where this one has gone.  It's called Jo Momma and anything/everything goes.  Threads in the other topic areas which devolve into high-drama get put there, and you may also start new threads there.  The folks on that site are pretty good about giving/taking a thrashing in Jo Momma and being remarkably civil and genial in the other forums.  Posters who would appear to despise each other in Jo Momma often become or already are very close friends who are simply taking advantage of a free expression open discussion area.  It's a wonderful thing, and tends to keep the other, more relevant, threads *nice* and relatively inoffensive.  Perhaps this site could use a Jo Momma area?

That said, I believe we all carry our own unique set of faiths, guesses, convictions, beliefs, hopes and wishes.  Even though we may appear to agree on pretty much everything, we will still disagree on many things.  More important to note, however, is that even when we appear to disagree on pretty much everything, we still probably really agree on most things that matter.  ;)

In case anyone feels the need to address me, note that I will probably be off-line until the weekend.

Do I need to apologize for derailing the thread?

Dave,
Not to worry.

Bob,
Yes, I meant ?take exception? and your humor is appreciated and not heavy handed. Although, I think that faith can be supported through discovery.

Adriaan,

I will read more into Richard Dawkins, he does put forward some interesting thoughts. By the same token I?m not suited to be the next Michael Behe.

In general, I am wary of any individual or group that exploits scientific methodology to support pre-conceived suppositions at the expense of alternative solutions, discovery or reasoning. I include Christians in this group, too.

Personally, I enjoy science and nature programming and articles and will readily defer to learning something new about the natural world around me. Being a Christian doesn't mean I need to check my brain in at the hat counter. I believe that we were in part created to explore and discover. I don?t think it?s an accident that we are a curious bunch. Suffice it to say, ?We?ll all know in the end.?

Correction: Should have used ?origin? (in a broad sense) instead of ?basis? in my first post.

All I can say on the original subject is -- I was flipping thru the channels one day, and happened upon this show.  It was someone who had a goldfish in a glass...drank the glass and goldfish.  Then stuck his finger down his throat, and brought the contents back up, into the glass.  The fish was still alive.  They cheered thier creativeness.

NEVER AGAIN.

Gah.

O.K., I know this is a touchy subject and one of those that shouldn't be brought up at the dinner table among polite company.  Nevertheless, I can't stand by on the sidelines any longer and let such an obviously backward, faith-based, un-educated, illogical, un-scientific, dare I say downright IGNORANT opinion be expressed.  How 'bout them Cowboys???!!!!  Jeeesh, they signed T.O. for dog's sake!

Actually snowball game works better.  The Niners were playing in Denver and Ray Wersching (machine) was about to kick the a field goal from well within his usual range.  Just as he's about to kick, a Broncos fan throws a snowball that lands next to the ball, distracts Wersching, kick no good, Niners lose.  TOTAL B.S.!

Of course you're still stuck with T.O.
Been there, done that - he's your problem now.  Have a great Turkey day.

Bill, the snowball incident reminds me of another game in Colorado (I can't remember if it was the Broncos or the Colo. U. Buffs) in which a game-winning field goal was kicked.  There was a nice layer of snow on the field.  A timeout was called before the attempt.  During the timeout someone with a snowblower went across the field clearing a strip where the ball would be placed.  Kick good, Bonkers/Buffs win.  There were all kinds of whiny-babies crying foul. LOL.

Perhaps the game you're thinking of Rich was a Patriots-Dolphins contest played during a snowstorm in Foxboro. A scoreless tie, near the end of the game a parollee named Henderson came out with the snowplow to clear a place allowing the Pats kicker to make the FG winning the game. It happened in the mid-late 80's I believe.

Now back to the original thread...

I can't believe the fuss this stirred up. After all the first three words of the thread Just For Fun says it all.... OK, feel free to flame me now.

JP, when something goofy happens I naturally assume that the Donkeys are involved.  I'm sure you are right.  I remember the part about the parolee being the one who plowed out the strip.
I also agree that the thread was supposed to be just for fun.  Of course Jackass is a bunch of stupid stuff.  If it's offensive to you then pick up the remote and vote with your thumb.

Hi I'm Johnny Knoxville, welcome to Jackass.

How did this thread go from a fun Trivia about a TV series about a bunch of Idiots to a moral thread involving Jesus and Christianity?

Somebody mentioned Steve-O's Goldfish stunt. That stunt makes more sense than the twist that this thread made.
