Last year I asked if any of you had gone to anything like Gerald Veasley's Bass Boot Camp, and I don't think anyone had. Well I went, and with registration for 2007 opening soon (camp is March 16-18 2007) , it had occurred to me that I never reported back from my experience. If this reads like an ad, I?ll state up front that I was a camper who paid full price and am not associated in any way with anyone involved in BBC.
I have to say, BBC 2006 was one of the most amazing musical experiences of my life. It was a long weekend of real interaction and instruction from a world class faculty as well as from phenomenal fellow campers.
Primarily being a guitarist, I was a little nervous because guitarists can be such gun-fighting jerks trying to out-do each other. This was completely absent at BBC, everyone was there in a spirit of camaraderie helping and encouraging each other. Then there is the faculty: WOW. Imagine being shown e-bow by Michael Manring, or having Bakithi Kumalo teach you the bass break he played in Paul Simon?s ?Call Me Al?, or have Adam Nitti teach you his hybrid-flamenco slap technique (which you have to see and hear to believe).
I can?t say enough, I walked away from that weekend dazzled, and plan to keep going.
Their motto is ?Are you ready to go the distance??. If that?s you, you should check them out. I had the time of my life.

Cary,
Thanx for the link. I checked it out and Mr Veasley has assembled quite a faculty, it appears. I may have to try this when some extra cash is available as it seems like it would be an incredible experience.
Cheers
