Title: Pickup loudness on Elan
Post by: studiorecluse on December 13, 2006, 09:04:28 AM
I just bought an Elan and noticed that the P-style neck pickup is much quieter than the J-style bridge pickup when the balance is set to center.
1) Is this normal?
2) Can this be adjusted electronically other than the balance knob?
3) I noticed two pots on the circuit board inside, are they related to this?  What do they do?
Thanks team.

Funny, the complaint with a PJ setup is usually the opposite of what you're describing.

You already found the solution: the two trimpots on the circuit board are indeed the individual pickup gain pots that allow you to compensate for these differences.

Other than that, there does seem to be a slight drop in volume when the panpot is close to center.

There are some good post from Mica dealing with this in the FAQ section. The best is the one Mica posted for me when I had the same problem.

Fantastic, just found it and read it.  I think I'm all set now.  Thanks.
