I just had to rave somewhere; I just recieved an instructional package from carol kaye and it's full of articles,history....and a Carol Kaye pick!!
Full of little gems of knowledge like miking amps, dealing with the studio scene, etc.
I'm about to watch the dvd's.

I am just CRAZY for Carol Kaye;  I could certainly never do the things I do without the education I got as a kid listening to all the fabulous records where she OWNED the deep end.  Her parts under 'Good Vibrations' made a tremendous impression on me, the deep groove, the smart use of the chords' arpeggiated notes, her authority in the chart.

Plus, she's a tough, opinionated, smart woman who more than held her own against a bullpen of some of the greatest studio players.

Those 60s, West Coast records, made by Ms Kaye and the A-Team of those days, are just gems made by seriously accomplished players who just knocked out 'these little pop records' (3 or 4 of them a day sometimes) to pay the bills, never realizing the impact they'd have on the world.  I really feel sorry for younger cats who never got the education from the radio I did, listening to her.

She and Jamerson OWNED the low end on American pop records in the 60's.  Incredibly inventive players.

I believe Carol used a pick a lot too.

Joe Osborn was a name that popped up a lot on Columbia record sessions in the 60s, Simon and Garfunkle, Fifth Dimension, Mamas and Papas, etc. A big influence on me early on.

Basscast #25 has a feature on Joe Osborn.  Who would have thought that the same bass player played with both the Carpenters and the International Submarine Band?

He is really a marvellous player and has an amazing history.  And he used a pick.

Charles Kynard's Reelin' With the Feelin' is my favorite. What a fantastic bass sound on this tune is!
Carol Kaye plays bass on this tune.

Let's not forget Donnald Duck Dunn! Another person who OWNED the low end and made a big impact on R&B.

I don't get it - how stupid do spammers have to be to think that annoying me like that will actually get me to buy their product/service/scam? It's a sure way to guarantee they'll never see a cent. Just wish I could abuse them like I can telemarketers.

Well telemarketers are spammers! And they always call at supper time!! And they get the same treatment as e-mail spammers get from me. I delete the e-mails and I hang up on the telemarketers. Makes you wonder ... some people MUST be buying from these spammers because if they weren't they would stop bothering us. Personally I don't know one single person who's ever bought from a spammer or a telemarketer.

ANYWAY this is off the subject at hand.

There were so many inventive players back then ... but remember for tomorrow's bass players THIS will be back then and they'll be having their minds blown by people like Victor and Jaco and Mark King and Stanley and Jeff Berlin and etc. etc. etc. Come to think of it they blow MY mind too! :-)

LOL- thanks for that Bill.

A beautiful thing about NZ: lived here 3+ years and have never received a telemarketing call.  Doesn't even exist here.

Sorry, did I miss something here? I'm not interested in the details, but if a post was actually deleted, it would be nice to have a record of that.

Regarding telemarketers, 2 things to stop them, first add your number to the National Do Not Call Registry:
https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx (https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx)
Second, for a couple of dollars a month, get Privacy Manager from your local phone provider.
I haven't had a telemarketing call in years.

I use my caller ID. If I don't recognize the name or number I don't answer. (Sometimes I don't answer because I do recognize it)

I have never had many problems with telemarketers. Part of the reason is I've always maintained an unlisted or unpublished number. This prevents the telephone company from selling your name and phone number to telemarketers. The other thing I do to help keep my number out of circulation is never give it out unless it is absolutely required (such as a loan). In recent years I have also added my numbers to the do not call list.

Now if I can only get folks to dial the correct prefix for the doctors office.
