Anyone have any experience with a D-tuner on a 34 scale? I don't have room for another bass right now, and I'm getting kind of antsy. This always seemed like a good idea to me, but how about reality.
Thanks, James

I used to use a D-tuner a lot. I really liked it. You have to get used to playing in the new tuning (DADG, assuming you're using standard tuning and tuning down a 1/2 step), but if you're playing in D it's actually kind of nice. There were even a couple of tunes where I would only detune in certain sections.
But I guess we should ask, how far down do you hope to detune?

Hi James,
I'm using Hipshot D-tuner on my MJ and Disttilate. MJ is 34 scale. I like it's sound very much. Replacing is easy. There is one notice that when tuning E-string, flipping the lever 2 or 3 times is required to settle the string in tune as it is written in a manual. After this, the string settles in tune all the while you down to D or up to E as you like. Some nervous player point out difference of string tension, because string post sinks a little by the reason of thickness of the mechanism. but I can't feel it. If you have interest, It's worth to try.

I thought I read somewhere that it is designed to go as low as C, I was not expecting to get a low B out of it. I play with a guitarist sometimes who likes to tune down to D when we play Stevie Ray Vaughn tunes, just like Stevie did. So a D tuning could be fun and useful. If you have ever seen Michael Manring play, he has tuning levers all over his Zon bass. He always flips back and forth 6 or 7 times when he tunes. BTW Toshiaki, I like your pix in the background. I don't think Janis ever understood how pretty she was. Thanks for the opinions, James

I use the D-tuner on my 32 scale '83 Spoiler(I swapped the tuning keys on my Spoilers since the '87 is tuned ADGC) I use it to flip down to D, works perfectly!

Which Hipshot tuner works on Alembics? Is it the GB7 model? I need to get one for my Distillate.

If there are Schallers on your bass you'll need te M4 (click here) (http://www.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?m=product_list&pageNumber=3&c=6&sortBy=undefined&search= target=_blank)
