Just read on the stanley clarke .com forum that he's planning a few shows in london at the end of april. there'll be at least 2 of the scottish contingency travelling down for that.

That's good news. Always something to learn and the chance to see him on upright just blows me away!
Now if I start paddling now I may just make it on time to catch the show.

Hey Graeme, can let us know when there are dates? I haven't seen him since '82 (?) and I'd LOVE to see him again.

Stanley Clarke came to Japan in the end of last year. I really enjoyed the concert. Especially his upright solo was incredibly great! The band consisted of four members. 6string bass, drums, keybords, and Stanley.

I'll be keeping my eyes and ears open for that one. I' haven't seen him live since 1993 and that was on holiday in USA.

As soon as i hear anything, this forum will be second to know. Ticketmaster will be first ;-)

That's great news, Graeme - I saw Stanley last time he was down here at Ronnie Scott's - great show but . . . absolutely ear-splitting volume! I took the wife and we had to leave before the end because it was physically painful for her (obviously, I'm kinda immune to it, given that I spend half my life standing next to a drummer).
Do you know which band he's bringing over? Last time, he had Armand Sabal-Lecco backing him up. And if there's one bass player I prefer even to Stan The Man, it's ASL!
Hopefully see you guys there!

So far it's still just a rumour on stanley's forum. Believe me, I'm checking the listings every day.

OK, I'll bite again...
Last time I saw Stanley it was fantastic. Live at Ronnie Scotts, with Armand Sabal Lecco on a MusicMan Sabre.
We were there early. They came on and did a 30 MINUTE SET. A 30 MINUTE SET.
We stayed. They came back and we thought it was the SECOND SET.
IT WAS THE SAME 30 MINUTE SET!!!!!!!!
Same jokes in the same places, and same choreography.
It was great though. Like watching a live show with a replay button.

I've got my ticket now for the gig Sunday 29th April.

Hey jazzy, maybe we can meet up. Mike and I will be at the guitar show during the day. Apparently they're having a bass-only room.

Sure that sounds a good idea.
I'll email you my mobile number.

Pictures!

i'm not sure I'll get any pics from the gig Dave. According to the venue's website they have a strict no cameras policy. maybe we'll get lucky and spot Stanley outside ;-)

Cameraphone in the pocket.
'nuff said.

Actually, I was referring to pictures of the meet-up before the show.
-
Thanks for clarifying that Dave. The last time I saw Stanley was with Jean-Luc Ponty and Bella Fleck in an old converted movie theatre. Some clown a few rows up was taking pictures with the brightest flash I've ever seen. What made it real bad was the flash would light up for several seconds before flashing. Finally the guy in front of him told him to quite. It almost ruined a great concert.

Sam.
I've never seen the point of using a flash from the audience anyway. Most flashes on the type of cameras smuggled into gigs only have an effective range of 15 feet at most so all they're lighting up is the back of peoples heads and the stage will appear darker as a result. I'm genarally happy taking pictures down to a 15th of a second handheld on my slr but it's too bulky to smuggle into a gig;-(
I'll certainly make sure I get pics before the gig. Just need to arrange a meeting place - best suggested by our southern contingent.

I know what you mean Graeme. It's so funny watching a football game or other nighttime outside event on TV. There are flashes all over the stands and they're not doing a thing.

I'm there on the 30th, trains permitting.......and you're so right about camera flashes!
