Having just pulled off an almost hijacking of the Northern Cali gathering thread, I thought I'd hop over here instead. So, here is the question of the day:
What is the worst movie you ever saw? I mean real stinkers, so bad that they are unintentionally good.
In the referenced thread I already nominated Ed Wood's classic Plan 9 From Outer Space and discussed another about which I am soliciting guesses. It stars the title character - a guy in a gorilla suit and a diving helmet. The mystery film includes such props as TV rabbit ears and a bubble machine as the interstellar communications device.
Name that move.
Name you own favorite bad movie.
Just how twisted can we get around here?

To the rest of the world they're probably bad movies but I love the whole Evil Dead series which includes Army of Darkness. Bill Campbell's character Ash is unforgettable. Groovy!

Too many to decide but it is ironic that last night Wild Angels was on Flix-e. Bad movie but has some great bikes in it, Nancy Sinatra too!

That's a short - it doesn't count. And, IMHO, it is quality entertainment. But I admit I am laughing hysterically right now as I had not thought about this film in many years. Truly a classic.
And yes, Robot Monster is indeed the mystery film. A small family group are the last remaining people on earth who try to avoid being killed by the guy in the gorilla suit and diving helmet. Every once in a while, for no apparent reason that has any relation to the plot, the movie cuts to old cheesy stock footage of iguanas and other lizards with cheap fins and horns glued on, playing the parts of fighting dinosaurs. Really bad.

The 1984, Dino De Laurentiis version of DUNE. It almost put me off of Frank Herbert's work! To paraphrase Frank Zappa, Cheepnis, in terms of a movie, has nothing to do with its budget.

Cocaine Fiends (1935 - also known as The Pace That Kills). Same genre as Reefer Madness. My first time in college the campus film series ran them together, along the Betty Boop Minnie the Moocher cartoon (1932) & the wonderful Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. silent short The Mystery of the Leaping Fish (1916), with Fairbanks as detective Coke Ennyday. A memorable night in spite of our best efforts, if you get my drift. And, of course, just about anything with Vincent Price - The Pit and the Pendelum, The Conqueror Worm, and on and on.

'The Master Gunfighter'

This film is set in southern California in the period shortly after California became part of the US. American settlers and the US government discriminated against the Mexican landowners and frequently took their land by force or legal skullduggery. This film focuses on wealthy Latino ranchers whose land and wealth are at risk. They decide to misdirect a US government ship carrying gold so that it will be wrecked and they can take the gold. To prevent themselves from being caught, they plan to massacre the local Chumash Indians. The hero is the now estranged adoptive son, a master swordsman (trained in Japan!) and gunfighter, who tries to prevent this while still saving his family. The plot reflects the sad history of double colonialism in California, the scenery is gorgeous (as is love-interest Barbara Carrera), and the action exciting.

WOW - a non-Billy Jack Tom Laughlin flick!!!! I have GOT to see that one! And if you haven't seen Billy's debut, Born Losers, check it out - a classic example of the killer-bikers-from-hell genre.

Most would probably find The Loved One (1965) to be pretty horrible - at least from a good taste point of view. But a movie in which Jonathan Winters plays multiple roles is worth checking out. Also in the cast: Milton Berle, John Gielgud, Liberace, Rod Steiger, among many others. From IMDb: If you are disturbed or offended by the funeral business, death in general, dead pets, or slightly veiled hints at necrophilia then you might want to give this one a miss. If you're brave and open-minded, however, I highly recommend this truly strange and wonderful film.
A classic bad movie. ;-)

Any one of the numerous giant snake movies like King Cobra, Python or Anaconda make me laugh. As a snakekeeper, I find the misinformation stunning.

OK, I just saw the worst movie ever:
The Ambushers. It's got bad spaceships, bad acting, bad special effects (especially the ray guns) bad music and Dean Martin being insanely badly sexist. It even claimed that Frank Sinatra was Perry Como! I thought I had seen it all until this stinker showed up.
It was so bad it was good! No, not really. It was just bad. I think it was Dean Martin day on TCM and they had to fill some time.

It was intended to be a bond spoof, but Our Man Flint is really bad in its own right, and quite hilariously so. Failing that, how has someone not mentioned the Rocky Horror Picture Show yet? The king of all bad movies. You might be able to scare up some good John Waters flicks as well.

Our Man Flint had a sequel called In Like Flint - made in 1967, it involved a group of criminal women taking over the world, one aspect of which was to replace the President of the US with a stand-in. I saw this on late-night TV in the early '80s, in the only frame of mind suitable for watching bad movies on late-night TV, and about lost it when James Coburn discovered the subterfuge and, looking into the camera with shock and disbelief, queried An actor as president?!?! Well, hey, I couldn't believe it either.

Hold on, no one has mentioned it yet because the Rocky Horror Picture show is a freakin masterpiece. How dare you suggest it qualifies as a bad movie. To fail to see it's genius, is well, I will pray for you........ Peace, James

Hmmm... I *like* a lot of the movies that people are suggesting here. Army of Darkness, Buckaroo Banzai, the Flint movies, Killer Klowns from Outer Space - love 'em all. Don't you guys hassle Night of the Comet or Night of the Creeps!
And you don't like Showgirls? If Elizabeth Berkley is willing to do 40,000 sit-ups for you, then the least you could do is show a little courtesy...
The only movie I remember paying for and walking out of the theater would have been Americathon. I remember wondering what in the heck this was supposed to be about. I'd pay to walk out of it again, too. There are, of course, a lot of movies on cable or rentals which got started and never finished.

I'm not saying I don't enjoy watching the movie, and I won't deny going in drag to audience participation events, but the Rocky Horror Picture show essentially lacks a plot through the whole second half. Its not exactly great film making in the style of Citizen Kane, or North by Northwest

I also like Killer Klowns. I own Killer Klowns. It perfectly fits the question of what is so bad it's good. Movies that just suck is a different area altogether. Blazing Saddles is one I walked out on.

Oh I forgot about Caveman! Ringo...what were you thinking?
My three bad/good picks are Return of the Living Dead (circa late 80's) and an obscure movie called Dead Again. Dead Again had me wondering when it was going to end, then BLAMMO the last 10 minutes cranked up a plot twist that made the whole movie work!
And who can forget This is Spinal Tap? I have had people watch it and say Who is this loser band not realizing it's satire at all!

Sam, you walked out on Blazing Saddles? I absolutely love Mel Brooks films! Just goes to show I guess.
I thought Closer (is it Closer? With Julia Roberts and Clive Owen?)was appalling, and wasn't even saved by Natalie Portman, something I thought impossible. Coyote Ugly was one I turned off part way through, despite Piper Perabo. Triple X is terrible. One of the best bad films I've seen was some old Tarzan film which had loads of miscellaneous footage grafted on, in some parts in B&W (the film was in colour...or possibly vice versa, I can't remember). That was hysterical. I love all the Roger Corman/Vincent Price stuff though, those are actually some of my favourite films. The Ed Wood stuff is great fun too. 1,000,000 years BC is certainly in Barbarella territory; I love both. My personal favourite bad film is Wacko, one of the earliest film spoofs that I've seen. I love that film.

And specially for Adriaan, some of my absolute favourite films; the LOTR trilogy, American Beauty, the Natural, The Shawshank Redemption, Ben Hur, Spartacus, Field of Dreams, King Kong (any), Jason & the Argonauts, The Great Escape, Kelly's Heroes, A Fistful of Dollars, ET, Star Wars, The Fifth Element...and about a billion others.

The scene in Blazing Saddles that did it for me was the campfire/beans scene. Just a bit outside of my sense of humor. And the ending was pretty odd. I know, if I walked out how did I see the ending? So many people raved about it I gave it a second chance.
Some like REM too. Some don't care for Jack Bruce. I'm not sure who Adrian is referring to but it's all good sums it up nicely. That's why there's so many choices.

When you listed King Kong (any), surely you forgot about the 1976 Dino Delaurentis fiasco with the big fake monkey carrying Jessica Lange up the World Trade Center. I wish I could forget about it.

Pardon me boy, is this the Transylvania Station? A friend erupted into spontaneous laughter for weeks after at that, he just couldn't get over it.
Re the beans scene in Blazing Saddles, my dad took me to see it when it came out, and I thought he was going to explode at that part. But then he's a big toilet humour fan. As I say, I love Mel Brooks, I think he's a comic genius.
Bill, I was waiting for the first comment on the '76 Kong. Thing is, I love it! Always have (whaddya mean it's a guy in suit? That's a real 50 ft gorilla!!! ). Maybe it's because I was only around 12 when I saw it, but it's still one of my favourite films. Ironically, the friend I mentioned before is just about the biggest Kong fan in the world, and he also loves it. We're an army of 2! But I'll allow the best worst tag simply because the weight of opinion is decidely against me . Sorry for hijacking the thread BTW! (But I'll just mention Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway too.... *runs for cover...*)

Jackass the movie and Jackass number two are my all time favorite bad movies. They are hysterical but Number two clearly is the better one of them.
