One of the comments on the youtube page mentioned that he never looked at his bass.
 
I'm looking around, and I've found that Ray Charles recorded this song in 1963.  It was written by Cliff Friend and Jack Reynolds, but I haven't been able to determine when.

I had the distinct pleasure & honor of sitting and talking with Mr. Hinton for quite some time back in 97'.  When I was the sales manager for GK amps, I had to do Bass Day '97 with Rocco Prestia.  I was backstage with all of my bass heroes that day.  The week leading up to that, I was on the road with Tower of Power.  that's a whole nuther story
