The first band to play was called Blue King Brown, and they were wonderful! I had never heard of them, but I loved what they were doing!
-
Glutton for punishment, eh Dave? I would think the first experience would have kept you from pursuing this line of posting...
-
LOL!!
But the first band was really good!
The second band was good.
The third band I skipped.
Japan just started, and the first band there is a little heavy for my tastes. So I'm waiting to see what's next from Australia.
-
Right now there's a band in Germany covering Dancing in the Streets.
-
Duran Duran is up now. Don't know what to expect.
-
I'm still waiting for Spinal Tap.
Keith
-
Nothing but good stuff Dave! Taylor is grooving and Simon is in good voice.
T
-
Agreed! There's putting on a good show!
-
Red Hot Chili Peppers are up after Duran Duran at Wembley.
-
Sarah Brightman is on the China feed; I've never seen her before.
-
Flea!
-
Flea can play bass.
-
Tap is next in UK.
-
Spinal Tap is up in a few minutes.
Right after Metellica, which is on now.

Yep, can't wait to see the burning earth bass in action.
-
They're on...
-
They are actually pretty entertaining!
OMG!!! Look at all the bass players!!!!
-
BIG BOTTOM!!!! Things are finally right in the world.
-
LOL!!
-
Seen Tap live - great show! Very capable musicians for actors and comedians. They had enough talent to be a real band.
-
There's a band in New York covering Ziggy Stardust!
-
I thought DuranDuran sounded amazing, John Taylor sounded wonderful with his Cirrus axes. Terrific scheduling: Wembley last week for the Diana celebration, Wembley this week for Live Earth: Nice work if you can get it.
As always, is the best all these guys can do is a Fender with an SVT? Boring.
While I'm glad to see the Police walking the Eafth once more, I REALLY wish they had done like a lot bands and add keyboard and second guitar and background vocalists to flesh out their work. Stewart was amazing as always, I thought Andy was more upfront than the old days, and Sting is Sting . . . . but whoever decided to bring Kanye West out with them needs to be summarily shot.

Sorry to be a party pooper but, if the event was about saving the earth, what about the carbon footprint that was created just putting the event together?
To me it was just an excuse to put on a massive worldwide party/concert and revive some flagging careers, global exposure for artistes etc. Not that I have a problem with that, just the promotion shouldn't claim it is about saving the earth in one hand and adding to the fire with all the fuel and energy burnt to put the event on,
On a l ighter note, did anyone spot an alembic or any other serious basses or guitars apart from gibson & Fender?
-
Jazzy-
I totally agree with you on the irony of it all.
I noticed a few non Gibson/Fenders: The bass player for Dave Matthews was playing a 5er that I couldn't quite identify, but it definetly wasn't run of the mill. 2. The guitarist for Bon Jovi was playing some guitar that i didn't recognize
-
I also agree about the irony. I only popped in from time to time. Nothing really grabbed my interest for too long. You know wood, plants and crusteaceans are repositories for carbon. So the more wooden instruments you have, the more stored carbon wont be released back into the world. I'm doing my part!
Just remember Matter is neither created nor destroyed, It is merely rearrainged.
Everything thats here (with the exception of things we have shot into space and the cosmic ferrules that bombard us daily) was here from the beginning.
Oh, I did buy a new bike for exercise to save driving to the gym, and I don't always plug into the amp to practice at home.
I'm leary of relying on spongebaths but I won't rule it out.

Jazzy, for what it's worth, and I do not want to start a political debate here, but to address the point, their goal was for the carbon footprint to be zero. Power was generated from biofuels, wind and solar; and biofuels fueled the shuttle buses. They purchased carbon credits to offset the emissions related to travel for the bands. CFL and LED lighting was used on the stages as well as for the accomodations for the bands. All aspects of the waste stream related to concessions were monitored to ensure use of recyclables. Recycled materials were used in the construction of the stages. I really don't want to start a political debate here on this issue, but I did want to address your point. Their goal was to have a zero carbon footprint.
-
This isn't political, but it seems for me personally, the more you believe in and depend on the Creator, the less faith you have in man to control his own destiny -either to save or destroy the earth.

Man won't destroy the Earth. The Earth will destroy man. (And since that includes the Black Eyed Peas, it ain't all bad! LOL)

Not just political discussion, but religion as well? Let's all be friendly and reserve our views for our close friends and other boards that thrive on such things!
I wasn't paying attention to the show details, is this thing still going on? If so, when does it conclude? It sounds like there have been some pretty hot acts on already and I wonder how/who they intend to close the show?
-
Bob; it ended last night, but you can still watch replays on the Live Earth web site. The show ended with a nice set by the Police. Before them, Roger Waters had a great set with several cuts from Dark Side of the Moon.
-
Another racist presentation!!!! Dark side if the moon, indeed! What about the Light side of the moon? And Waters was with Pink Floyd. Sounds like a sexual preference slur directed at the town barber of Mayberry! What's this forum coming to? Can't we all just get along??!!!

OMG. I went to a friends house last night. His wife forced me to watch the Police bit with John Mayer. It was great............Until.........WTF. Kanye West. Puhlease. Who booked that. I want his name and address.
I already don't like rap. But what was that? I'll bet it was big Al himself. I'll bet big Al was sitting back in his easy chair with a Mint Julip trying to figure out how to fit so many performers together. All of a sudden he had a flash back to the Opera he went to last week and how it was really hard to clap to the beat that the orchestra whas playing too. HHHMMMM. We need to put some soul in this concert I'm putting on for the world. I got it! he said as he took another drink from the glass containing the Mint Julip. Let's put a rapper together with a group of classic rockers. That'll really bring everyone together and make em think about the harm they're doing to the environment.
Anyway, I think that's how that might have happened.

Trying to convince my 6 year old grandaughter that she could help save 124,000 railcars of coal each year by snuffing out her Mickey Mouse nightlight along with everyone else in the world Is an impossible task.
Tellem to keep digging says she.
