Hey All,
Im going to a run of phil lesh shows at the Nokia Theatre in times sqaure, and am looking for suggestions for a reasonably clean, and reasonably priced hotel in the area.

I would try priceline. I don't know of anything that is both...

I'd stay in Jersey City NJ, and take the PATH. Prices are (depending on season) anywhere from 30-60% cheaper than Manhattan (i.e. $250 vs. $500).
The Hyatt in Jersey City is nice, and right next to the PATH station. Nice beds, rooms are nice, too (and you might be able to get a decent view). The restaurant is beautifully located, overlooking the Hudson river towards the Statue of Liberty, but is quite expensive ($30 for breakfast buffet).
The Courtyard is also close to a path station, but you'd have to transfer, IIRC, to get to New York It's cheaper than the Hyatt, continental breakfast might be included, esp. if you have AAA.
The PATH will take you up to 33rd, which is about 8-10 blocks from times square; it's an easy hoof, even in dress shoes. Of course, cabs are always an option.

I'd have to agree with Bradley- I don't know what you consider 'reasonably priced' but you'll have a hard time finding anything for less than $400 bucks anywhere that I'd feel would fit the 'safe and clean' bill.

It amazes me how prices on such things are so regionaly influenced.

Check out the Milburn, 76th? and Broadway. Used to get a nice king sized bed for $200 night, but they realized how underpriced they were and have raised the rates as of this October, might still be worth it. Also recommeded recently as better and cheaper than the Milburn, The Beacon, on Broadway near 76th. Nice neighborhood, And a quick 20 block walk to midtown. Have fun whereever you stay.

You would truly save a lot and give up almost nothing by staying out in Jersey right on the PATH train. There are better ways to spend your cash in the NYC area than on Manhattan hotels. The convenience factor is very small.

The last time I was in NY was Bass Day 97 or 98. Can't remember. Whichever one Rocco, Jeff, and Garibaldi played. (I was on the road with T.O.P. then). I think it was at the Manhattan Plaza.
Anyway, I went to the New Yorker Hotel because it was right there and someone forgot to make me a reservation for me.
Well me, not willing to pay $250 a night asked the desk clerk if there was a place around there I could get for $100 a night. Hey I'm cheap and I'd never been to NY before.
He writes a room number on a piece of paper and slips it to me quitetly. He told me to go to that room and knock on the door.
Well it was late and I wanted a place to to sleep. So I went to the room and knocked on the door. A little old chinese lady in a nitgown answers the door.
She says You want Room? in only the way that a little old chinese lady would.
I said Yes
She Said How Much
I said $100
She says Show Me Money I did.
She hands me a room key for a room on the 20something floor.
And so I spent a nite in the worlds smallest hotel room.

One of my coworkers recently tried to book a Manhattan hotel, and couldn't touch anything for under $600 a night.
The PATH thing is super convenient-- buck fifty a trip, trains run all the time, and you're in Manhattan in 15 minutes. Well, at least in comparison to spending a couple extra hundred bucks.

We were down there a couple months ago on Symantec's dollar. They put us up at Le Parker Meridien. We were on the 37th floor overlooking Central Park at $380 at night. Glad I wasn't picking up the tab.
I'd highly recommend the place if that's in your price range, but I would have to agree that there are a few places that are relatively easy to reach outside the city to save significant dollars.

The NORML National Conference was supposed to be in New York this year. It had to be moved to Los Angeles because we couldn't find a reasonably priced decent hotel anywhere in Manhattan. I'd recommend the Joisey/PATH route. It's a lot quicker than communting from L.A.

thanks guys...Looks like I'll probably stay at the Ramada in at the Newark Intn Airport. They have a 24 hour shuttle that runs to Newark Penn.
Should be a good time, Im going to the 10/31-11/3 shows. MIght even bring my bass with me so I have something to do during the day at the hotel.
The sucky thing is that the company I work for is have a scientific poster session friday 11/2, and Im expected to present a poster that day even though I put in for the time off months ago....
Corporations suck...

what about Hotel Carter, I remember the place when I went there back in 98, I have just gone on their web site and they do an internet special at $119 per night(I think)
Worth checking out..that is a good rate as I am from the UK and the pound/dollar is good for us on this side

I stayed at the airport Ramada you mentioned about 3 years ago (EDIT- 6 years ago-where has the time gone?). It was brand new at that point and it was a very easy trip into Penn Station from there.
Hardest part was trying to get BACK to the hotel while driving. My wife and I drove around in circles for about 25 minutes- we could SEE the hotel, but couldn't figure out how to get there. It was actually really good training for when we got into Newark, which is a maze and an absolute nightmare for non local drivers.

Glocke...well it does turn the head a bit but it is okay for a one stop off. mind you it was 10 years ago since I was there

Sh**, just looked at the reviews from that website(and thanks for it..have saved to my favourites)it sounds like hotel from hell!!...certainly wasn't that bad when I was there..rough and ready but it was cheap but it looks like it needs the enviromental people in there.Sorry Glocke..bad call on my behalf, look elsewhere 'cos I will if I plan to go to NY next year(which I was)
