i wanted to share this with the group. Appreciate susan allowing me to post a non alembic. Even though it is something alembic doesnt make, i still asked This is Ribbecke's first 5 string halfling bass sound is very rich, i will be back as soon as i plug it in. i will have some more photos. Best case i have ever seen also. its also the first bass with tom;s signature amaryllis inlay

Looks sweet jeff. Took less time than the new tribute too;-)
How loud is it unplugged?
Graeme
-
plenty loud g man
am plucking right now
can you hear it?
lol
-
Fraid not. I'm listening to allison Krauss and robert Plant on my headphones so I missed it ;-)
-
it has a real sweet sound graeme
doesnt boom one bit
great sustain
adjusting to the 34 scale again
neck is similar to wolf in dimension but a little thicker as it gets twds the body
going to use it friday night for a proper road test
workmanship is top notch
i need to take photos esp the case, it is crushed black velvet, heavily padded on the top and i have to wiggle it in to get it firmly seated. not a quarter inch of space round the body. its a tad heavy but much better than other cases incl g and gs
-
my one major bitch complaint was they didnt put a strap holder on the neck joint, i would never have thought the need to ask for one, their take is it is a sit down player because of the thick body
they are mailing one to me with instructions and i have my dremel ready, for now i think i will get some leather string or shoe lace and tie it through the nut
might be safer lol
-
get a strap on it jeff. I've found with the kelly that if I sit to play it I soon get a pain in my bicep where it rests on the edge of the guitar. This doesn't happen if I'm standing.
They need to give it tummy and elbow contouring like Alembic ;-)
-
interesting that you say that
ribbecke makes an arm rest out of ebony that relieves the issue- its 300$ but might be worth it
they use 2 sided carpet tape to secure it to the body. there is a picture of one in the webiste
in the player profile section. its a lot of money but may be a necissity
-
Looks like just the thing. Very expensive though.
I like the dark sunburst fretless they have pics of in the forum. If only mrs J hadn't stiolen my credit card ;-(
-
Jeff,
That is a really nice looking bass. I think you should pony up for the arm rest (and let me know if you do).

i didnt like the dark burst that they picked for me
it was not a good job and they have since moved spray in house i believe. i actually wanted to add a little amber on the sides and back but it meant....waitinnnnnnnng
so i opted for this as is
its much richer in person
yes brad i think i will do the arm rest= great spkg with you today

Nice bass! How 'bout a pic of the case? Has anyone here seen the Rob Allen cases?
I would love to get a case like that for my Alembic. The G&G's are ok, but I really like the form fit case that the Rob Allen offers.

i hate the g and g cases.
in my eyes they are inferior, its a shame these basses have to go in there
-
Michael,
Rob Allen cases-- I want. Look nice, seem well constructed.
Roscoe uses Pro-tec, with custom inserts. Also want.

I'm getting a custom Calton Case (http://www.caltoncases.ab.ca/frame_home.htm) made for Woody, my Further. Expensive, but the best out there that I can find.
Bill, tgo
-
very similar to mine bill
more latches on mine- i think there are 8
-
i took a test drive last friday
my mates say it sounded awesome plugged in
i am getting my sound hole cover shortly and i ordered an ebony armrest for the upper bout,.
i dont care for the volume control- its not sensitive enough, its like on and loud and not much in between. i am guessing it will take some time to break the woods in, the sound is very even across the strings, the B is not as strong acoustically as i hoped but that may be to its being brand new as noted above. plugged in it is sweet and sexy, very much reminded me of the sound of the godfather with more of an acoustic tone but a real nice low end sound and very very clean.i give it a 9.50 out of 10. markleys are the strings of choice according to them as they tested a ton of em in developmnent, roundwounds but very playable. am glad i got #1. it aint goin nowhere.
i will post some more pics soon. i am taking it out again tonight,
its a nice complement to wolf, scarlet(soon), the classico and my ns5 crm. which is what i reduced my inventory to.
