i always liked john lennon & his music, our birthdays are a few days apart his being oct9th & mine oct15th. although i cant quite rember what i was doing on that tragic day, but i aquired my 1st and only beloved alembic (old#12)two weeks (dec 28th 1980)after that terrible tragedy!

Thanks Dave. I was a senior in HS and learned about it in homeroom the following morning...the principal made it the 1st announcement of the day! Can't believe it's been nearly 30yrs since we lost him...what a terrible waste!

I was with my mother... driving to Atlanta to go Xmas shopping.  I remember the DJ broke in in the middle of a song to make the announcement.  They then did a minute of silence.  It's one of those memories that still rings very clear.  It's an event that can be likened to the Kennedy assassination for a lot of people.

I was in a small, upscale club nearby that my friend's father owned and managed at the time. My band had played that weekend and we were loading equipment. I was waiting my turn at pool. The radio DJ announced the news then played Blondie's The Tide is High. Whenever I hear that song I am hauntingly transported back to that frozen moment.

I was working in a surgical operating theatre at my local hospital, when I got up in the morning I was always first up, I remember waking my dad and telling him and then the staff at the unit..the look on all their faces said it all. It seemed like the world was a worse place and was going to get much worser...was I wrong??

I was within a couple blocks of where it happened while Chapman was waiting and Lennon was on his way home.  I went to school on 85th Street on the east side and we were on our way back from a basketball game coming up Central Park West.  I think we got back to the school just after 10:30 that night.  Of course, there was no indication of anything happening at that point, but it makes it real easy to remember where I was at the time.
