Does anyone know of a guitar stand that works well with the Elan body shape. It wants to sit off center in my regular stand and I don't want it to fall...

Hercules makes on with an auto lock on it. (http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Hercules-Stands-Single-Guitar-Stand-with-Folding-Yoke?sku=453081)

I'm not sure if the Hercules would work. It's a great stand, but my Excel 5 just barely fits. FYI the opening is 2 inches wide.

Thanks guys. The Hercules looks great but the neck of my bass is 2.2 inches at the nut. I'll see what I can find out about the Hamilton stand....

Ultimate makes a similar hang-by-the-neck stand to the above picture, though it's more solid than the Hamilton looks in the pic. It runs around $30, as I recall. By the way, I LOVE the Hercules stand, just wish it folded up smaller.

I wish I could do the Hercules: my bass won't fit (technically, it will, but you have to jam it in (not going to happen)).

I have had a Hamilton stand like the one shown above for years. You can easily adjust the width of the neck opening to fit any bass.
It is very stable and holds all my basses very securely - from narrow 4's to wide 6's. I haven't found anything I like better.
Two minor issues:
1- The height adjustment sometimes slips down when holding very heavy basses.
2- The foam padding around the neck area eventually wears out and has to be replaced.

My Essence 6 fits the Hamilton very well (or vice-versa), wide neck and all.
