just venting....................
I was in a band up until a couple of weeks ago when i got the call. you know the call. need to speak to you right away type call or man where have you been ive been trying to get in touch with you call. so anyway i was told the band wasnt progressing so ........ dumdedumdum... we're making a change on bass and lead singer...
i let it go at that...... since i am definitely over it.
I promised myself that if it happened again i was taking matters into my own hands- yes the same hands the mourned marilyn chambers- hahaha lmao
i figure i would beat(no Pun) one of you in saying that-
Posted an ad in craigslist and i got a lot of responses this time. The hook on the ad was wanting to make tunes our own by bending them or stretching them and getting good musicians into the mix. jamming first and then gig out. 50% dead balance classic covers. i asked the repliers to send a list of 10 tunes-5 of each.
its been about 2 weeks and i am almost ready to book time at the studio- i even have 2 drummers!
keys, and 4 gmen looking to come in. think i will break it into 2 sets with 2gmen each. i also have my old buddy on keys as an emergency back up.
if anyone wants to check out one of the gmen do a search on youtube for andy schlesinger. and my space for forgettng others. i think he is real good.
So at this point i feel real good about this. i dont know where its goin- i just plan on having fun and seeing where it goes.
but i think i got it right this time- and i am
IN CHARGE!

Good for you!!
In my band Rumsfeld, I am band dictator for the first time, and for the most part it is a good thing, as I was usually the band counsellor anyway...the down side is I have to make arrangements, chase money and make connections; previously, I just had to be sure I wasn't too drunk to play...mind you, I now sing as well, so slowing the drink is a good way of remembering lyrics, and the night...Tony

Flax, remember with power comes responsibility lol!
Sometimes the whole band thing wears me down (chasing money, making connections etc etc) Im usually the guy who has to do the leg work and it can be a grind.

Good luck with it Jeff. Hope this time it works out.

Good luck Jeff. Im in my own personal band hell right now, (drummer forgot his hi-hat stand the other night for a gig forcing us to cancel, drummer wont talk to the rest of the band members except through his liaison the guitar player, drummer wants to charge us for electricity usage since we practice at his hours....blah..blah).
Bands can be physically and emotionally draining.

better to rule in hell than serve in heaven
i was always of the opinion that whoever finds a gig gets an extra % of the take
for motivation purposes
besides you know i will flaxinate anyone who gets out of line!

Looks like my kind of set list Jeff. Do you need a Bassplayer? ;-)
Sadly for me, there's no market in Scotland for 60's/70's rock bands - we have to keep up with modern tastes which can be hard work considering some of the crap in the charts right now.

I am in a lucky groove as one band I am in(Big Si & The Yawns), the singer is the organiser, I just turn up and play. Easy money as the tunes are so easy to to play..70's chart hits, really cheesy.
The second band I am in is the salsa/jazz outfit and again the keys player does all the organising and we all get on great.
I think we all get the experience bad band scenarios at least once in our musical lives but it seems flax gets all the ones meant for us thrown at him!!
Good luck flax and hope it all works out
