I see the tomahawk has received some preventive padding! Both of these basses have moved onto other homes, but here are the two I've had:

Here's my headstocks: Graphite Series 1, seen here recently in another thread:

Series Exploiter with a nice cone:

Series 8-String knobby:

Series II 5-string:
My bass is the one on the the Series II product page. This isn't the best headstock photo, but the back is pretty interesting:
This instrument is 35" scale, but I think that somebody may have missed that early on on the work order. The scarf joint is really extended on this bass, way past the headstock and down into the fingerboard area which you can see on the back. When I first received this bass, the thinnest point of the neck was actually underneath the first fret area, sort of a negative volute that screamed "break neck here". We did a neck profile rework on this instrument after the first completion which included some additional veneer layers on the back of the headstock so the headstock didn't seem quite so precarious. There was never any negative effect on the sustain or tone before or after, but it did look pretty scary from the side. Nobody but Alembic could have done a fix like this. I requested that Alembic do this bass with ebony neck laminates; this bass is the origin of today's ebony neck lam option. David Fung

Pete, good to see ya around these parts!
Dave, is the headstock on your 6 thinner than the norm? I had them use a guitar-sized crown on mine.
-
what does the fret x do, Jazzyvee?
~Taylor
-
Mike; I believe it's just the standard six string bass crown.
-
Mike,
I stop in every day or so to do a little reading, but there are so many people on this site that know more than I do. I would love to see everyone get together soon. I would really like to jam with you on that pedal steel. One of my favorite instruments! Hope all is well.
Regards,
Pete

Taylor, Jazzy has a FretFX aftermarket LED set on his Europa, That's the battery pack on the back of the headstock and the clear tube running to to the front contains the LEDs and attaches to the top of the neck. The LED array and the battery pack attach with an adhesive strip that doesn't mar the surface, but can't be shifted or transferred once it's attached. I've got them on two of my Alembics as well, and I love them (my third Alembic has the factory installed LEDs). Here's mine on my Epic (they were originally called "Hot Dotz"):
and here's my Distillate:
They're available in red, blue or green, are MUCH less costly than retrofitting, and use 1 or 2 AA rather than 4 9-volt batteries (depending on LED color selected). Here's a side shot of the Distillate:
I don't have a headstock only shot of my fretless Epic, so here's me and my baby:

Thanks for the nice comments guys!
Harry, I don't have a picture of my Exploiter's headstock too add to this thread, but it is basically the same as yours, so it would be sort of redundant.

Wow, Mike, that Epic Fretless's headstock is SO nice!

Gracias, Mario.
The maple face complements the knobby style. That bass was an Ebay find about 8 years ago. It's my main instrument in the Noah Gabriel Band.

Harry, Jazzy reminded me of it in another thread a couple weeks ago... -I was obsessing over logo placement at the time- anyway, I hope to be adding a cocobolo-faced 3+2 Elan headstock to this thread soon. ;D Though I have no idea where the logo will end up. I decided to stop thinking about it, and just enjoy the surprise. ::)
*nice Stanley Squared Sig. We just saw it's maple twin on ebay and Reverb today.

What is/ was the criteria for which headstocks had the medallion and which ones had the medallion w/ script?
-
What is/ was the criteria for which headstocks had the medallion and which ones had the medallion w/ script?
I think the 'script' badges first appeared in 1987 or so... but I don't know if there ever was/is an ironclad rule about them from model to model. There are a couple older basses that have retrofit script badges too. Keavin's old #12 comes to mind. I see FC's Wild-Walnut 1977 Series has one too.
-
Here is my latest headstock picture.
-
(http://club.alembic.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=22569.0;attach=2390;image)
-
Gregory: Indeed 1987 (second half iirc) They stopped around 2003, but the script is always available on request.
Most older instruments with script got them while under repair/being modified at the mothership I think, I added the ones on mine myself (on the '79 SI and '83 Spoiler)
A friend of mine has a Jeweler shop and some high tech 3d scanning/printing equipment, so it was pretty easy for him to replicate them in Silver and Brass. :-) (Brass should have been bronze I think, that one is a bit too goldish yellow compared to the logo)
-
1985 Spoiler. I really love this bass and it's my first Alembic. Only waited until I was 55 to join the club. Better late than never.

Here's three more:

My 10 string.
