Post by: 57basstra on October 01, 2009, 04:56:13 PM
Things have been hectic lately. I am about to kick back and watch our good friend David Carradine in his critically acclaimed portrayal of Woody Guthrie in Bound for Glory tonight on TCM.....cheers..

I've never seen that; at least not that I remember.

Just watched it. It gives me chills to think of what folks went through during the Depression.

The folk Singer songwriters -- the real folk singers -- have always been my musical heroes.

Woody Guthrie was one of the very best. David Carradine did a nice job also. This was the first time I'd ever seen it all the way through.

Thanks for responding Dave!

I ran a search to see if there might be an online streaming free version, but couldn't find one.

Dave,
Don't forget your local public library as a possible free source for the DVD as well. This film was also one of the first to make use of the Brown Stabilizer (later known as the Steadicam).

If you like Woody (and, obviously,  I do (http://www.alembic.com/info/fc_woody.html)), there is a  new box set (http://www.rollingstone.com/reviews/album/29203523/review/29716114/my_dusty_road) out that is outstanding.  Some lady in Brooklyn recently found a stash of metal 78 masters in her basement.  These are, by far, the best sounding recordings of Woody I've ever heard.  Joe Bob sez Two Big Thumbs Up!
