I gave lots of cool gifts, but the best I got was a new iPod 160GB. Nice, and plenty useful (my 2-yr old 60GB is nearly full and the battery's gone flat), but not nearly as cool as the stuff the Flax-Meister got!

Happy Merry to All!

Well, the occasion coincided with our annual Early Christmas Dinner, so I guess it qualifies -I got a nice automatic for my 10th anniversary at the company. Not the shooting kind of automatic, but an Oris Big Crown Pointer Date (http://www.oris.ch/collections/collections_detail.aspx?ln=en&id_collection=11&id_product=107 target=_blank).

What is NLP if it is not neuro-linguistic programming?

Well, From Mrs j, i got the eagles new album and Stanley's new album, plus, she got me Jools Holland's Autobiography. My mum got me Guy Pratt's autobiography, 'My bass and other animals' which is very entertaining and makes me sad I missed his standup show at the edinburgh festival last summer.
My brother-in-Law bought me a selection box of Black Isle brewery (http://www.blackislebrewery.com/about.asp) ales which I'm looking forward to sampling soon.

My mom gave me the Grateful Dead Gear book, and framed the Tiger poster that I have owned for years. Students gave me a coffee maker for my classroom.

Graeme, browsing the shelves at one of my favourite bookshops - which I just found out is closing (aaaarrrrrggggghhhhhh) - I noticed Jools mentioned on the cover of a book about Portmeirion (http://www.alwynwturner.com/portmeirion/index.html target=_blank) for which he wrote the foreword.

He did a programme about portmeirion for the BBC around 12 years ago and he came across as a huge fan. We visited in 1994. It's a bizarre place - very ornate and italian looking but it all appears to be made from plywood. The perspectives are odd too - nothing is as big as it looks. Naturally, they trade off the Prisoner connection.

As far as British oddities go, I immensely enjoyed the Brighton Pavillion - though I doubt you'll find any plywood there. As I remember it, all the ceilings were surprisingly low.

Getting off a train at Great Malvern railway station was otherworldly after boarding that same train at Birmingham New Street. And I loved Hereford Hop.
