Oh my. That is going to rule - especially in that room!
-
Off to see the wizard..........

The show was great. Allan Holdsworth was on fire. The Baked Potato holds no more than 100 people, we were like 20 feet from the band. We saw the late set which was about 90 minutes. I'm not that familiar with his material to know what the set list was, but it was jazz fusion guitar at it's best. Just a trio, guitar, bass, and drums. After the show we met Allan, Chad Wakerman, and Jimmy Johnson, Shook hands, took pictures(which I hope my friend emails me real soon), and had them sign some cd covers. We were working the room  Holdsworth is a guitar monster. Had a great time, hit Denny's on the way back, and got the lumberjack slam. Back home at 4:00am...Now I feel like a Baked Potato :cheers:I'll post some pics when I get them............ 8)

Sounds like the ultimate night out to me!
AH is THE guitar monster of all time in my book - what a tone!
VERY COOL

How was the sound?
-
I've never seen a Series II with the controls layed out in that pattern before..... then again, I haven't seen too many Series II basses before.
For those in the know, is that a normal layout?
-
I agree. I think the standard layout for a pre-'86 would be similar to this bass (http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=8264).

The room was small, and the sound was great. Watching AH switch from finger picking to flat picking was cool, plus his left hand hammer-ons, and pull-offs were out of site. A lot of his sound is done with a volume pedal. Jimmy's bass rig (which we got no pics of)was some kind of preamp, and two 10 speakers, I didnt see a power amp..I dunno...

You can just see Jimmy Johnson's setup in bottom right hand corner of this pic of Chad Wackerman and me..(http://club.alembic.com/Images/449/47829.jpg)

So I'm wondering what Jimmy's bass is hanging from?
The amp looks like it's got a five pin input.
-
Probably a nail. I didnt look.....Lol...

Hi crobbins,
Thank you for the nice photo !
I am interested some points.
The tail piece is slim shape as boomerang.
The neck is about a inch ahead than old one, due to deep omega cut.
The strap pin is mounted at the top of upper horn.
(His old one's pin was slightly inside.)
Of course, control knob's layout are his style.
(Master Volume is aside the bridge as recent PU selector.)
His rigs are simple, old Walter Woods head and maybe 15 inchs cab.
Were there any other cab ?
I am a fan of J.J.

Cool, thanks. Some of the other pics my friend took were blurry and not worth posting. Jimmy Johnson was very friendly and sounded great. I got all 3 band members to sign a cd cover from 2002 with this same group..Jimmy said he was wearing the same pants from 2002..Lol...
